'We can beat Real Madrid calmly' claims Barcelona’s David Villa – La Liga News

Barcelona’s David Villa has openly expressed his views concerning the La Liga title race. The forward has claimed that his side can defeat the nine-time Champions League winners with ease in the title race.

Villa’s statement comes in contrast to Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat at Getafe that has taken them six points behind current league leaders and fierce rivals Real Madrid. Madrid eased their way to victory against their city rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday. The two teams at Santiago Bernabeu and Los Blancos were able to secure a 4-1 victory in the Madrid derby.

However Spanish international David Villa is adamant that Real Madrid can still not be tipped title winners just yet. Although, Jose Mourinho’s men seem have to taken the upper hand in the competition for the league title.

The 29-year-old has stated that he is eagerly looking to forward to the El Clasico, that is set to take place in around two weeks time. According to Villa, Barcelona will prove their mettle in when the two Spanish giants meet on the 10th of December for the season’s first Clasico.

Barcelona are the current Spanish champions, they have been the winners of the La Liga title in the last seasons. Barca also became the current Champions League title holders, after they defeated Manchester United in last year’s Champions League final at Wembley.

With a very successful run under manager Pep Guardiola and with players such as Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta among others, they are widely considered the best team in the Spanish Primera. The Catalans are also among the top teams in the world and are even considered the best in the world by many.

However, this season the matters have been different as their rivals Real Madrid have been on an amazing run this season. Madrid are currently on top of the La Liga standings and appear likely to present a bigger challenge to Barcelona.

David Villa, however looks to the future with optimism despite the defeat at Getafe. While talking to Barca TV, the 29-year-old was quoted as saying:

"This is not over, soon we will have a match against them [Madrid] and we can beat them calmly and that is what we have to think about. It is a shame that we are now this far from the leader."

Villa also discussed the defeat against Getafe with Barca TV, he said:

"Getafe closed down very well, just like every team has been doing, we had good chances but their keeper played very well. They scored a goal from a corner and things became much harder then. I am not one to make excuses, but we could not score and the whole Getafe team was at the back.”

The forward also emphasized the importance of looking forward to the rest of the season.

"We have to go match by match, win against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday and go step by step.”

Barcelona will face Real Madrid on the 10th of December in a very crucial El Clasico. Lets see if Real Madrid can bring Barca’s dominance to an end.
