  • Toure Transfer to Man City nears

Manchester City are completing a £25 million deal to sign Yaya Toure, currently at Barcelona, according to Toure’s agent.

Toure has been linked with a move to the Premier League for quite some time now, and it seems that Manchester City have actually beaten Chelsea to the signing of Toure.

First From the Ivory Coast

Toure is a highly-rated holding midfielder who played 34 times for the La Liga champions during the last campaign.  He scored one goal and had a hand in six assists.  Toure was the first player from Ivory Coast to sign with the prestigious Barcelona club. His contract with Barca is set to expire towards the end of the 2011/2012 season.

Agent Dimitri Seluk is due to hold final talks with Sandro Rosell, the new Barcelona president. Seluk said: "I think we will probably close his departure very soon. It is likely to be this week but at the moment we can't announce anything.”

“I haven't spoken to Rosell but I will speak to him before anything is closed. [Joan] Laporta is the president until 30 June but I have to speak to Rosell and know his opinion because he is the new president."

Ivory Coast international Toure is currently in the middle of the World Cup in South Africa, and is expected to complete the deal formally after the World Cup ends.

Toure is expected to get a contract worth somewhere around 25 million euros, which is slightly lower than the reported 35 million Barca was originally asking for to transfer the midfielder.

Toure’s brother Kolo is already signed with Man City, so should Toure’s deal with Man City go through, the two brothers would get to play at the same club together.

President to President

Joan Laporta, the outgoing Barcelona president says that the deal is close to completion. Laporta plans to talk to his replacement, Sandro Rosell, about the state of Toure’s deal before leaving his post on July 1.

"I'll talk to him, president to president, to update him on some issues, as in the case of transfers and signings," Laporta commented. "Selling Toure is very advanced and I will also inform him of how the negotiations are for Cesc Fabregas."

Toure to Play with Older Brother

Toure is currently on show at the 2010 World Cup, while the deal between Barcelona and Man City is being worked out. Toure is getting more and more expensive as the competition intensifies. However, it seems apparent that Manchester City are ready and willing to put forward whatever amount is required to secure the transfer of Toure from Barcelona.

The 27 year old Toure is undoubtedly excited to make the transfer to the Premier League, and it is a definite plus that the move to Eastlands is coupled with a handsome paycheck.  The fact that Toure’s older brother is also playing with Man City at the moment opened speculations regarding whether Toure will secure the starting spot, which seems likely nonetheless.

Toure Hopes for the Premier League

Toure said in an interview with the Daily Mirror: "I want to go to play in the Premier League because the Premier League is a very nice competition and I love that. Every time when I hear a Premier League game is on I go home to watch it.

"After the World Cup, I will decide what I will do but, for now, I want to focus on the World Cup and the Ivory Coast."
