Tottenham Hotspur looking to sign Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra

With January transfer window drawing to a close, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to shore up their midfield by signing a midfielder. Spurs are reportedly interested in acquisition of Real Madrid midfielder, Lassana Diarra.

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp, wants to reinforce Spurs midfield, and is looking forward to the 25-year-old to join him at White Hart Lane. Redknapp knows the midfield destroyer well from their time together at Portsmouth FC, and is long-time admirer of the Frenchman. The manager moved to Tottenham and France International flew to the Spanish capital, in the next year.

After the summer acquisition of Sami Khedira by Jose Mourinho, the Frenchman has gone down in the pecking order for the first team. The French has been superseded by the German in the last season in the list of favourites to play in the field. The Paris-native is believed unhappy at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. He wants to leave the club for first team football, but Mourinho is not ready to sell the defensive midfielder on cheap. Los Galacticos are demanding a fee of 21 Million Euros for the transfer. The Spurs believe the demand will come down to 11.5 Million Euros, but it will still be a long shot. the Lilywhites are also receiving high-wage demands from the French. Diarra is asking for a 93,000 Euros pay per week  to represent the club in the remaining season.

Besides all the monetary aspects, the club is facing a head-to-head competition from another English club, Manchester United who are also in pursuit of the former Chelsea star. In the past few days the Red Devils have also shown interest in the French and are eyeing his moves specially to the English side. They might attempt to steal the deal from the Lilywhites.

Diarra started his professional career with the French club, Le Havre AC in 2003. Staying at Le Havre for two years, he then moved to the neighbours, England. He joined Chelsea FC in 2005, moved to Arsenal FC in 2007 and next year to Portsmouth FC. He joined the current club in 2009. He has also appeared for the French national team. He earns 28 caps in the international career since 2007. Hoping to play in the English Premier League, the France International awaits the agreement between Los Blancos and Spurs.

Tottenham are currently at fifth position and will be fighting for the top-3 slot in the remaining season. With only two wins in the last five matches, the team is seven points behind third placed Manchester City. Jamie O’Hara and Tom Huddlestone are out because of injuries. With fifteen matches left in the league, the team will not leave any stone unturned unless they find the best combination in the centre of the field. Diarra, therefore looks to be the best choice to the management and the next few days will decide the future of the French footballer.
