Thomas Voeckler wins stage two of Giro del Trentino

French National Champion Thomas Vocekler of Europcar took his sixth victory of the year, winning the second stage of the Giro del Trentino. Thomas Voeckler covered the distance of 184kilometre in 4 hours, 47minutes and 51seconds. The race is started in Dro and ended at the Ledro Bezzecca.

In the hilly last kilometres, Voeckler attacked on the final climb but Michele Scarponi quickly jumping on his wheel to take second position. Scarponi teammate Przemyslaw Niemiec was in the third place with the difference of 25 second, while Vincenzo Nibali was in ninth place with the same time.

Scarponi was leading in the overall classification with the timing of 5 hours, 3minutes and 36 second. Tiago Machado of RadioShack team was in the second place with the difference of 12 seconds, while Vincenzo Nibali of Liquigas-Cannondale team was in third spot with the difference of 14 second.

In the last 30kilometres to go, Scarponi had come close to Voeckler and said “I know you’re the strong man today, I’m keeping an eye on you.”

He also added “So, knowing that he would win, I looked to respond to his attack. I knew that the final 5km were flat, so a small advantage on the climb was going to be enough to hold on to the finish.”

The Italian racer put up a brilliant performance in the stage and took the first leader jersey.  Scarponi was very happy after winning the stage, he said; “I'm here to check my good form first. Giro Del Trentino is my ultimate dress rehearsal towards the Giro d'Italia,"

The break of the day was dominated by a four-man with Yuriy Krivstov, Giuseppe de Maria, Volodymyr Zagorodny and Davide Torosantucci, but they were closely marshaled by the bunch behind.

There was a five minutes advantage but soon it was all over when they reached Valle di Ledro.

When the Lampre had controlled the early part of the climb, Voeckler launched the decisive move in the last two kilometres and only Scarponi was able to clutch the Thomas Voeckler wheel. Premyslaw Niemecled was taking a third place in the stage.
