The stylish sprinter Slick Lee became the new champion of the Betfair Wentworth Park Gold Cup

Greyhound racing is a sport which is always full of indecisive outcomes as proved on last Saturday March 26, 2011. The triumphant of the Betfair Gold Cup heat, Queensland superstar Dashing Corsair was proved no match for stylish Slick Lee the son of champion Brett Lee. Although the superstar sprinter from Queensland, which was favourite for the race, has celebrated his flaming success in the Betfair Gold Cup heat last week by clicking the victory in a short span of time just in 42.28 seconds yet this time he failed to do so at Wentworth Park.

In the Group 2 Final of 720 metres distance with a prize money of $25,000 for the winner on last Saturday 26 March at Wentworth Park Dashing Corsair started quite well. Having stepped out from red box as a favourite, the Queensland chaser Dashing Corsair started the race at odds of $1.50 and also there seemed a great support for the chaser.

But this time it is the turn of Keith Pedrana trained Slick Lee, the son of champ Brett Lee, who seized the victory from the jaws of defeat by a margin of one and a half length finishing it in 42.23 seconds and took out the first prize of an amount of $25,000. The stylish dog is not a great beginner but a very good chaser and came in front from behind to ensure his sparkling win in a fine fashion. Keith Pedrana, the trainer has been please by the promising performance of the stylish chaser that led him to a perfect victory. Keeping in view the current form of the chaser it can be said that if the chaser steps out well and gains an early lead during the race then a very hard and firm effort will be required to beat the chaser.

Mr. Hugh Taggart, an official of the Betfair has told that they have observed a great support for Queensland chaser Dashing Corsair on their site and there was also a strong international patronage for the Queensland sprinter.

“Customers from more than 20 countries backed Dashing Corsair into $ 1.76 favouritism,” Mr. Hugh Taggart added his views.

But at the end the favourite Queensland stayer was defeated by one and half length and left his supporters to lick their wounds.

According to the Betfair officials the ultimate triumphant, Slick Lee who started at very high odds returned to $17.70 on course.

“Slick Lee also had its friends. Backed in from as high as $40 early in betting, Slick Lee firmed into $23 and caused a well deserved boil over,” Hugh Taggart further explained.

The Betfair Gold Cup which was conducted on Saturday will be of a great importance for the winner and will play a vital role in the forth coming, Globe Memorial Easter Chase, event which is decided to be commenced during the next month. While the heats of the Group 2 event will be commenced on 16th of the next month along with two major events, Macro Meats Golden Cup Semi-final and Multiquip Western Districts Cup Final.
