T&T men clobber Barbados by 11-1 at the Pan American Games in Mexico

Trinidad and Tobago athletes put an overriding effort to whip Barbados by 11-1 in their second encounter, in Pool A, at the 16th Pan American Games played in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Saturday, October 22.

The T&T athletes wonderfully dominated their Barbados counterparts throughout the entire match where they scored five goals in the first thirty five minutes and six in the second part of the game while the conceded only a single strike during the entire course of action.

The Barbados athletes really offered some resistance to stop the flying T&T attacks but they could not manage to do so. The T&T men played much clinical hockey as compared to their previous match where they were lost to Canada with a huge margin of five goals.

However, this time they looked irrefutable in their attack and more solid in their defence. As the stats showed they scored a goal after almost every six and half minutes on average.

The T&T athletes started the first thirty five minutes on attacking note as they took just three minutes to open their score when Kwandwan Browne netted the ball in the third minute and put T&T into the lead.

Just three minutes after the opener T&T athletes succeeded in doubling their lead but this time it was Mickell Pierre with a wonderful field goal. However, their double-strike lead lasted only for three minutes as Barbados too opened their account in the ninth minute when Kris Holder scored their first goal of the match.

However, the remaining time in the first half showed the complete dominance of the T&T men as they made a triple blow to the Barbados team in a short span of 11 minutes.

Kwandwan Browne scored the third and his second of the match by converting a penalty corner into goal in the 16th minute. T&T men earned two more penalty corners in the 23rd and 27th minute on which Dwayne Quan Chan and Christopher Scipio made no blunder and made it 5-1 for T&T. the score stood still until the interval.

In the second half T&T men seemed more aggressive and attacking as compared to the first one. They kept on scoring the goals from the very first minute till the very last.

They opened their second half scoring just one minute into the play when Mickell Pierre scored his second of the match in the 36th minute followed by another field beauty by Atib Whittington in the very next minute.

Two minutes later the T&T athletes were awarded a penalty stroke to which Aidai De Gannes easily made another goal. It took just three more minutes when T&T men scored their 9th goal of the match in the 42nd minute. This time it was again Christopher Scipio’s turn and he did it beautifully.

T&T scored their 10th goal in the 60th minute with Aki Toussaint finding the net before Dwayne Quan Chan concluded the action in the 68th minute.
