Steelers Troy Polamalu still questionable for Sunday

For the first time in three weeks Troy Polamalu, strong safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, practiced on Friday. However there is no confirmation as to whether or not the All-Pro will be playing in the last game of the season on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

The Steelers’ Twitter feed listed Polamalu as questionable for Week 17 as of Friday. However, he will probably be a game time decision.

The star safety was out for two games these past weeks due to an injury to his right Achilles' tendon. Steelers’ medical staff wants to see how Polamalu feels and performs in practice before deciding if he is fit enough to play on Sunday.

However, it would be a better decision to rest Polamalu some more since the team should not expose him to further injury. The Steelers have already secured a playoff spot, so Sundays’ game is relatively insignificant.

Also this week, Polamalu has been elected as the team’s most valuable player for the first time in the career. He was also elected on Tuesday to his sixth Pro Bowl in January.

Also out for Sunday are running back Mewelde Moore with a knee injury and defensive end Aaron Smith with a triceps injury. Jason Worilds, who was out with a knee injury, is listed as questionable.

Moore injured his knee late in last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers, after only four carries for five yards and one reception for 11 yards. Smith has missed the last two months with his injury and will miss a further week. The last time he played was in Week 7 in their win over the Miami Dolphins. Worilds was injured early in last week’s win over the Panthers, with no tackles recorded. Although the seriousness of his injury is unknown, he will not be playing next week.

The Steelers game against the Browns will start at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday January 2 at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Stay tuned!
