St Louis Cardinals 40- men roster is expanding with latest new contributions made by the World Champions leading minor leagues. 2 players have been selected from Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A caliber Pacific Coast minor league, whereas the 3rd addition is made by SpringField Cardinals, a Double-A caliber Texas minor League. With the current addition Redbirds roster has totaled to 36 leaving behind spots to be filled by potential free agents. Cardinals have 8 minor league affiliates at the moment.

The newly added artillery consists of 3 pitchers who are a vital part for every team’s battery. The picks are Charles (Chuckie) Fick, right hand pitcher, who played his complete 2011 season with Memphis Redbirds; Samuel D. Freeman, left handed pitcher, who devoted his 2011 season to two teams i.e. Springfield and Palm Beach whereas the last selection was Adam Robert Ottavino, right handed pitcher who also spent his entire 2011 season with the Memphis. The picks are generally made to avoid the loss of these 3 players in the December 8 Rule 5 draft.

Californian born Chuckie Fick, was picked up by Cardinals in the 15th round of 2007 MLB Amateur Draft. The young 25 year old lad, who will turn 26 this Sunday i.e. on November 20, has 5 years experience while playing with Cardinals different minor leagues and is considered the most uprising and performance oriented pitcher in the minor league.

Fick, son of Chuck Fick, a professional scout for Cardinals, has been a part of 54 games out of which he finished 12 games. In all these appearances he has pitched 70 1/3 innings and successfully sent 61 hitters back to dugout by strike out. By winning five and losing three games he has a win-loss percentage of .625. The 25 year old was fortunate to halt his WHIP to 1.152, his career best, in 2011. His gradually increasing refined performance did force Cardinals to pick him up before any other team or league does it. He has faced a total of 293 sluggers and possesses a strike out ratio of 1.65, his best ever.

Freeman, the 2nd selection, is a Texas born 24-year old lad, drafted by the Cardinals in 2008 MLB Amateur Draft, has an experience that expands 3 years, all with Cardinals’ affiliates. Samuel twirled for Palm Beach and Springfield in season 2011. Making appearances in 59 games he has pitched 68 1/3 innings and finished 27 games. With an ERA of 3.16 he has strikeout 59 hitters out of a total of 292 faced.

The Texan young lad has a .500 win-loss average with two wins and losses each whereas his WHIP and strike out ratio is 1.361 and 1.84 respectively. He is being considered as the 2nd most best pick among the three.

The last pitcher given a chance to be a part of the 40-men roster is Adam Robert Ottavino, the 25-year old New York born. Playing right handed, the young gun spent his 2011 season with Memphis, Cardinals top AAA rated minor league. Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006 MLB Amateur Draft, the energetic lad started 25 games out of a total 26 he played in 2011. In all these games he has pitched 141 innings and faced 639 hitters out of which he successfully strike out 120 hence a strike out ratio of 1.69. Adam has won 7 games and lost 8 games securing a win-loss percentage of .467 and a WHIP of 1.596.

In the year 2011 Adam proudly placed himself in top 10 places in most aspects.
