Spanish La Liga weekly round-up – Villarreal

A team that has been outshining almost all the other teams in the Spanish La Liga is Villarreal. Since their arrival in the first division, they have not been relegated once and this year they have managed to outshine all the other mid-table teams as they are currently sitting at the European spot. Their target this year is to stay in the top four of the Spanish La Liga so they can compete at European level. However, they have suffered a few losses this season that have totally taken them down.

Villarreal started the season with a tremendous start. They were barely losing any games and then they had to suffer a loss against Barcelona. Villarreal had to face Barcelona at the Nou Camp and even though Nilmar found himself on the score board before any other player, the Spanish Champions won the game 3-1 to get all three points from the game.

Villarreal faced Real Madrid last weekend and they were on fire when the game started. They took the lead in the first half and they looked to be totally unstoppable even though they were away from home to face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. The game was a total thriller and the first goal was scored by the Villarreal striker Cani who easily chipped the ball above Iker Casillas and finished the ball into the net. Later, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a fabulous goal to make it 1-1 for both the teams.

The pace of the game changed after the Portuguese captain scored. However, Villarreal were still busy attacking and it was Marco Ruben who made sure that he gives the visitors the deserving lead. Villarreal were playing beautiful football and were trying to outplay Jose Mourinho’s men. Marco Ruben got the ball on the right flank after an outstanding through ball from Cani. The Villarreal striker easily got past Ricardo Carvalho and Pepe and with Iker Casillas charging forward, Ruben easily lobbed the ball high as it finished into the net putting the pressure back on the second placed Spanish La Liga side.

It was definitely a “must-win” situation for the Los Blancos who were trying to stay in the Spanish La Liga title race with Barcelona who won their weekend fixture 0-4 against Deportivo La Coruna. Jose Mourinho took off Karim Benzema to make sure that the team starts scoring at Santiago Bernabeu. It was Cristiano Ronaldo who scored two more to give the team a 3-2 lead. Later, the substitute Kaka scored his first goal of the season to make it 4-2.

Villarreal played beautiful football against Real Madrid were caught against Sevilla during the midweek fixture of the Copa Del Rey. The mid-table Sevilla managed to score three away goals in the Copa Del Rey as they faced Villarreal. Villarreal managed to draw the game 3-3 but they still have a three away goal disadvantage when they are going to face Sevilla away from home.

Villarreal definitely did not get the desired results during this week and they will definitely be motivated to take a win against the bottom-table side Osasuna. Villarreal will be entertaining Osasuna in their home ground and they are definitely going to try their best to keep up with the pace of the Spanish La Liga as Valencia are only two points behind them at number 4.
