Smooth Fancy is back on track as 2011 Golden Easter Egg is about to start

Group 1 superstar Smooth Fancy, trained by one of the most successful and famous Australian trainer Anthony Azzopardi returned back from his retirement to take part in the upcoming 2011 Golden Easter Egg competition. The trainer is quite hopeful with his chaser that this time it will shine on the day.

Last year during the National Sprint Championship that was held in Adelaide, the superstar had displayed his brilliant and astonishing performance with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. The chaser scored an amazing victory by coming in front from behind the leading Shootout hero Cosmic Chief and gave a huge excitement to all of his fans. Now the star chaser, Smooth Fancy is returning from his retirement which means that he has a clear aim in his mind and that is to snatch the forthcoming Australia’s richest greyhound race, the 2011 Golden Easter Egg final which is decided to be held on 23rd of this month having total prize money of $250,000 as a first prize.

During the Paws of Thunder series last year at Wentworth Park the speed star has scored the second fastest run of all the time finishing in 29.48 seconds. Keeping this in mind there seems no doubt that the chaser will be among the early favourites as the race starts.

The decision by the trainer Anthony Azzopardi to retire the star chaser last year for the breeding purpose was not of a surprise and the chaser has his first litter two weeks ago. But now his trainer is of the view that the star chaser is looking well as he seemed ever and if he has some good luck there is no doubt that he can come back strongly on the track to score another victory, the most important one.

“His trials have been impressive which shows his still as good as he was. His been in work for eight weeks but we will have to wait and see how he perform in a race field before we can see how good he is really going,” Anthony Azzopardi stated.

Anthony Azzopardi will have an exciting time in the 2011 Golden Easter Egg series as along with Smooth Fancy there will be Adam Meway who proved himself a consistent improving performer recently. Adam Meway has won ten out of his fifteen starts and has been placed twice. These successes include his inspiring win at The Gardens which is over 515 metres and the chaser finished in an impressive time of 29.56 seconds. He also recorded another 515 metres victory in a same time at Sandown Park. He seems to be a promising youngster who has the ability to tackle his contestants and became victorious in the Golden Easter Egg final.

Greyhound racing fans in Sydney are greatly excited not only over the return of Smooth Fancy on the track but also due to the probable inclusion of High Earner, the greyhound that holds the record of highest stake earnings in the history of greyhound racing. And also among the contenders there will be El Grand Senor, the present superstar who has already snatched four Group races with three of these are Group one.
