Salvatore Sirigu a successor to Nicolas Douchez reveals Antoine Kombouare – Ligue 1 news

Paris Saint-Germain coach Antoine Kombouare had already decided that Salvatore Sirigu would be a successor to Nicolas Douchez before the arrival of the Italian international from U.S Palermo.

Sirigu arrived to Parc des Princes on July 28th 2011, from Italian side Palermo for a sum of 3.5 million Euros. The 24-year-old has already proved to be a tough competitor for Nicolas Douchez as Les Parisiens number one keeper.

Antoine Kombouare had already decided that Douchez would be wearing the gloves this season following his arrival from Stade Rennes in the 2011 summer transfer window. However due to his injury the Kanak coach had to look for other options. The French tactician had already conveyed his intentions to Douchez.

“So I went to see Nico and told him that I will bring a young Italian international goalkeeper under the conditions that if he plays good, he will be given preference. Now you’re hurt, bad luck for you, but this is how it is,” said the 47-year-old coach

Kombouare further added, “The key now is that he understood and now we are lucky to have two very good guards.”

Since his arrival, Sirigu has shown great agility and pulled some of the spectacular saves in the eight days of Ligue 1. Kombouare has already promoted him to be his first choice when it comes to Ligue 1 games.

In an interview to French TV channel M6, the New Caledonia native coach said that it was a bad time for Nicolas Douchez to get injured giving him no chance to prove himself. He further added that everything was explained to him that PSG would go for the best keeper available. The French tactician stressed on the fact that Les Parisiens decided on recruiting a new goalkeeper after Douchez was injured.

Though the French goalkeeper missed his opportunity to prove himself, Sirigu not only availed the opportunity, but impressed the coach by displaying his superiority in front of goal.

Paris Saint-Germain will be taking on Athletic Bilbao in the UEFA Europa League on 29th September, 2011 and Olympique Lyonnais in the ninth week of 2011/12 Ligue 1 Championelle. Antoine Kombouare will be counting on both his keeper to be in top shape as both games will prove to be challenging.
