Roberto Martinez content with his current Wigan Athletic squad – EPL News

Wigan Athletic boss, Roberto Martinez has claimed that he is happy with his current Latics’ squad and is looking to buy a couple of more players in order to increase the depth of his team ahead of the next Barclays Premier League season.

Roberto Martinez’s men were on the verge of being relegated from Barclays Premier League last season. The Latics endured a disappointing League campaign and had been on the wrong side of the table for most of the season.

However, Wigan Athletic marked a historic 1-0 win over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on the very last fixture of the last Barclays Premier League season and survived the relegation. Roberto Martinez finished 16th in the League standings with 42 points.

Roberto Martinez is now aiming to add quality to his current squad in order to prevent another disappointing campaign in the Premier League. Wigan Athletic have already signed Ali Al-Habsi from Bolton Wanderers on a permanent deal and is looking to bring more players.

However, Martinez is happy with his current squad but has not ruled out new signings.

“What I can say is I am delighted with the squad we have at the present time, and we are determined to finish the transfer window with a stronger squad than the one we had at the start,” added Martinez.

Martinez has confirmed that Wigan Athletic are doing well in pursuing their prime transfer targets and is optimistic that he will be able to sign his targeted player.

"We have been following a number of players over the past few months, and we're going to carry on doing that.

However, Martinez was adamant that the developments related to new signings are going to take in the next few days. But he has hinted that new players are expected to join the Latics.

He said, “But a lot will depend on what develops over the next three weeks, because there are going to be a few changes about the place - I'm sure about that.”

Martinez is happy with acquisition of Ali Al-Habsi from Bolton Wanderers and has revealed that the Omani goalkeeper was prime transfer target of Wigan.

Martinez added: “Ali was undoubtedly our top priority over the summer, we have got him in the bag and now we move on to the next targets.”

The Latics are in the transfer in search of a wide player and have been reportedly after Manchester City’s want-away winger Shaun Wright Phillips. Wigan Athletic chairman David Whelan has also publicily confirmed that the club is looking to sign Manchester City winger.

Moreover, Roberto Martinez is also aiming to bring two players on loan from any Premier League club just like he did last season when he signed Tom Cleverly from Manchester United and Ali Al-Habsi from Bolton Wanderers.
