Roberto Martinez aims to keep hold of big names at Wigan Athletic – EPL News

Wigan Athletic is determined to keep hold of his key players in this transfer window as he aims to increase the depth and the quality of his current ahead of the upcoming 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season.

The Latics escaped the relegation from the Barclays Premier League on the very last of the recently concluded Barclays Premier League season. Roberto Martinez is now determined to keep hold of club big names in order to avoid relegation battle next season.

A number of Wigan Athletic’s top players have been linked with a move away from DW Stadium.

The Latics top goal scorer of the last season, Charles N’Zogbia has attracted interested interest from a number of the Barclays Premier League clubs after shining at DW Stadium last year. The French international was a revelation at DW Stadium last season and played a vital role in Wigan Athletic’s survival battle.

Liverpool, Sunderland and Aston Villa all are interested in N’Zogbia. Liverpool are looking for a wide player and Kenny Dalglish has targeted Wigan’s N’Zogbia. Moreover, Sunderland are looking for a replacement of Jordan Henderson, who joined Liverpool and N’Zobgian has emerged out to be the top transfer of the Black Cats.

Moreover, Aston Villa are leading the chase for N’Zogbia’s signature. The French International is being seen as a perfect replacement of Ashley Young, who joined Manchester United.

Furthermore, Wigan Athletic’s influential midfielder James McCarthy, who has a year left on his contract with the Latics, is also seeking a move away from DW Stadium. Along with McCarthy and N’Zogbia, Hugo Rodallega has also been heavily linked with a number of clubs.

Roberto Martinez confirmed that the club has not received any official for the Latics’ players and has admitted that a number of clubs are trying to sign their players.

“We've had no offers (for his players) but I am sure there is a lot of interest in our top performers - and rightly so, we will take that as a compliment.”

However, Martinez is determined to bring players to the DW Stadium and is confident that he will be able to increase the quality of his squad by the end of this summer.

“But we are looking forward to finishing the window in a stronger position than we started and that is why we work so hard behind the scenes to get ready,” added the Latics manager.

Martinez also believes that his current is quite strong and said, At the moment it is very straightforward: we are very strong in our squad, we have got very good numbers.”

Wigan Athletic have already signed Ali Al-Habsi from Bolton Wanderers and are looking to land Manchester City’s want-away winger Shaun Wright Phillips.
