Real Madrid step up attempt to land Emmanuel Adebayor or atleast one other striker

It is no secret that Real Madrid’s manager, Jose Mourinho is looking to bring in a replacement for Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinean forward has undergone surgery on his herniated back in U.S.A this past week and as a result he has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season.

As a result, the Spanish outfit have been put on the red alert to land a replacement for the next six months. The team had been lined with Emmanuel Adebayor in the past, but it seems like the team is finally willing to step up their attempts to land the striker. This is despite the fact that the team might have to pay the forward around a hundred and sixty thousand pounds a week.

Mourinho had stated at the start of the month that he would not be looking to make any signings in the winter transfer window. But a series of unfortunate events has led the team, with only one world class striker who happens to be Karim Benzema. It is also no secret that despite rating Benzema highly, Mourinho still feels he can’t fully trust the French forward to deliver the goods week in and week out.

The director general at Madrid Jorge Valdano has gone ahead and added more speculation to the possibility of the team landing Adebayor and is reported to have said: "We are exploring the market now the uncertainty around Higuain has been resolved"

"We'll see if we can find a player to help us for six months.

"Many names are being mentioned and it's best not to go into details. But it's true we are looking for a No. 9."

Real have also been linked to a number of other players like Bayern Munich veteran, Miroslav Klose and former Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. However it seems like the team would much rather try their luck with Adebayor, who has also turned down the offer to be loaned to a Premier League team, as he is waiting for a ‘Big Club’ to come get him.

If logic is anything to go by, then there aren’t many clubs or any club in the world that is bigger then Real Madrid and with Adebayor already looking to have set his sights on a move to Spain, it's going to be close to impossible for him to settle for anything less.
