Real Madrid defender Marcelo Vieira claims that he wants to finish his career with the Los Blancos--- Spanish La Liga news

Brazil and Real Madrid left-back, Marcelo Vieira, has stated that he wants to remain with the club for the rest of his football career.

The former Fluminense man has impressed millions of people with his performances for Real Madrid. He has three goals and seven assists to his name so far in 41 appearances in the ongoing 2010-11 La Liga season for the club, in addition to his contributions and good statistics as a defender.

The 22-year-old is happy with life in Madrid and considers it to be an honour to retire in a Real Madrid shirt.

He said, ''Since my family and I arrived here, people have treated us very well. Not only at the club but the Spanish in general have been wonderful and Madrid is a great city. I want to win a lot of titles here and if I can retire at this club it would be an honour. But there's still a lot of work to be done.''

Currently Real Madrid is second in the Spanish La Liga behind leaders, Barcelona, and they will be facing Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. Furthermore, Los Blancos look set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League semi-final after their emphatic 4-0 victory over the English side, Tottenham Hotspur, in the first leg of the quarter-final.

Marcelo is confident that his side can bring the UEFA Champions League title to Santiago Bernabeu trophy cabinet this season. Real Madrid has failed to win the Champions League since 2002, despite their European triumphs in the past.

He said, ''We just have to stick together and stay confident. I think we can win the Champions League. It's difficult to say now but I can see us celebrating at Wembley Stadium in May.”

If Real Madrid progresses to the semi-final of the Champions League, they are likely to face their bitter rivals, Barcelona. The Catalan club is flying high as they thrashed Ukrainian side, Shakhtar Donetsk, 5-1, in the first leg of the quarter-final. It will be an eagerly anticipated tie if the two teams face each other in the Champions League semi-final.

Real Madrid travels to Athletic Bilbao in their next Spanish La Liga fixture on 9th April 2011.
