Real Madrid defender Garay Ezequiel eyed by Schalke and Sporting Lisbon

Real Madrid’s forgotten Argentine Ezequiel Garay is finally being linked with an away move. News from Spain has confirmed interest shown by various other clubs for the 24-year-old defender. Over time Garay has been unable to find a permanent place in the squad mostly because of being overshadowed by talents like Ricardo Carvalho, Pepe, Sergio Ramos and Marcello.

Garay had grown out favour in the eyes of manager Jose Mourinho who himself was experiencing a hard time giving the youngster a spot on field. Garay has only been able to feature 4 times this season.

Last season he capped 23 times and even scored a goal. Garay was signed from Racing Santander in 2008 but was immediately sent back to his former club on loan. Mourinho has finally realized keeping Garay in squad would be wasting a spot in team and career of the youngster.

It is expected Garay will either be sent on loan or offered a permanent transfer. He is not the only person who is having trouble featuring in the first squad of Real. Los Blancos’ winger, Pedro Leon is also rumoured to be preparing for a run to Sporting Lisbon.

The Portuguese outfit has shown interest in signing the young player after he fell down the pecking order at Santiago Bernabeu. Chelsea and Manchester City were willing to sign in the youngster during the January transfer window. It can be anticipated they will be attracted by his talents again in the upcoming summer break.

Leon featured in 13 games for Real Madrid this season alongside stats of 2 goals and a lone assist. With the recovery of Gonzalo Higuain, Real will be once again be at their full might with all players featuring at their position.

The Argentine international Higuain is recovering from a back injury that occurred near to turn of the year. Officials from Real have confirmed Higuain is back in training. This means earlier statements of him being ruled out for the rest of the season can be over ruled.

Even though Mourinho has signed in Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City on a season long loan he will be hesitant to bench the Togolese international and bring Higuain to the park.

Players like Garay, Leon and Adebayor have very little chance of becoming a regular in a team as lustrous as Real Madrid. Garay will most probably be seen off during the summers. The current first line up of Real is just too strong for the new players to enter into La Liga and Champions League’s fierce competition.

With Portuguese defender Pepe signing an extension in his contract future is bleak for the young players unless they venture out on loan and provide evidence for their game time talents. Pepe has finally resolved his wage issues and will be staying at Bernabeu till 2016.
