Ravi Bopara confident for the World Twenty20 – Cricket News Update

England’s all-round talent, Ravi Bopara, who aided the Poms to mark an exceptional 10 wickets win against the West Indies on Friday, stands confident that his bowling flair will be a major addition to his team for the upcoming Twenty20 (T20) World Cup, which is now less than a year away.

During the preceding, opening T20 match against the Windies, Bopara played a pivotal role for his side, bagging England’s record breaking, T20 figures, after securing 4 wickets, for just 2.73.

However, Bopara’s performance comes as a true evidence for his pursuit to mark a solid spot on the national squad; and that he has done surely.

Not only was he a strong member on Friday’s game, but his match winning batting number, worth 96 runs, during the just-concluded ODI home series against India, made him stand out as a worthy middle order talent for England.

“The last month has been very good for me. I only got 40-odd in the Test match at the Oval but that freed me up a lot during the one-dayers. I played with a free spirit and said to myself 'just back yourself and just hit the ball',” said Bopara.

The all-rounder also stated that one can never hope to stay on the squad, unless you keep performing, further adding that “I don't want to get too far ahead of myself because that happened when I got three hundreds in a row (in 2009). When you get above your station that is when you fall quite hard. It is easy when things are going well to have a good mindset.”

During Friday’s game, Bopara delivered a quick damage on the Windies roster, kicking off his streak with two consecutive wickets in the innings 16th over that sent-off Nkruma Bonner (3) and Christopher Barnwell (0). The manner continued in Bopara’s forthcoming over, and the 18th of the session, that eliminated Andre Russell (6) and Danza Hyatt (28).

However, for now, Bopara has surely earned what he wanted, and is a real part of England’s youth oriented, Graeme Swann led, T20 squad, which now stands confident to defend its team’s shortest format title in the upcoming Championship, set to kick off in Sri Lanka in September, next year.
