Rafael Van der Vaart ready to take on Real Madrid

Tottenham Hotspurs have surprised one and all by making it to the final eight of UEFA Champions League in their very first season. This gives the Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart a great chance to prove to his former employers what they are missing. Rafael who joined Tottenham on the final day of summer transfer window for 9 million pounds, said that he is ready for Madrid and cannot wait to show what he could have done for them

Tottenham has already surprised many by beating teams like Inter Milan and their town rivals AC Milan in their run to the quarter finals of Champions League. Now they will be looking to shock another European giant as they take on the former European champions Real Madrid in April.

Van der Vaart has his personal agenda to settle in the two legged tie against Madrid, and is eager to play against the team that he feels did not value him. The Dutch midfielder was part of Netherlands’ team that made it to the final of World Cup last year, only to be beaten 1-0 by Spain in extra time.  He said that he is very motivated and cannot wait to go and play at Bernabeu. Rafael went on to say that the pressure will not be on his team, but in fact it will be Real who will be the ones feeling it. He added that he played 68 games for the Spanish outfit and scored 13 goals, and he knows the club and its players.

Rafael believes that his team has a great chance of making it to the semi finals of the Champions League. He said that there is no doubt in his mind that Tottenham can beat Real, and if his team sticks to its own style Madrid are sure to have plenty of problems.

Van der Vaart admitted that he was not treated right at Real Madrid and was driven away. He added that there came a time when he was forced to train alone and did not have support from anyone in the team.

Rafael van Der Vaart was mostly on the fringes and did not manage to get a regular place in the starting eleven at Madrid. He added that even before his last season at Madrid, many of his close friends and agent has suggested that he should leave. But Rafael insisted on staying and wanted to fight for his place in the team. However after another fruitless season, Jose Mourinho came in and signed bunch of midfielders including Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira. Rafael knew that it was time to move on. And when Tottenham came calling he knew that this was the right thing to do. Since moving to White Hart Lane he has been a great hit, and already scored some crucial goals for Tottenham,

"It was a hell of a fight.

"At one point I was training on my own on a separate training pitch at the back of the complex.

"But I knew with the quality of my game I would come back on top and I would show them I deserved a place in the team. Said Van der Vaart

Rafael said that he always knew that he was good enough to play for Real Madrid, and that is the reason he tried so long to fight for his place.

Tottenham is 5th on the Premier League table and have a fight on their hands with Manchester City if they are to end 4th and make it to the Champions League next season. The quarter final between Tottenham and Real Madrid will take place next month.
