Premier League Winners and Losers: Match Week 30 – Part 2

Winners continued

A much improved performance from Liverpool saw them overcome their disappointment during the midweek in Europa League. The tame draw, where Liverpool failed to create any meaningful goal scoring opportunities, could have ended differently had Luis Suarez been eligible to play in the competition. The Uruguayan was again the star of the show for Liverpool as he ran havoc amongst the Sunderland defenders all afternoon.

Liverpool managed another away win as Spurs slipped up again and Manchester City lost to Chelsea. The win keeps Liverpool’s slip hopes of getting into top four still alive. Spurs are still involved in the Champions League and it is sure to affect their league campaign and with Manchester City failing to get a good run under their belt, Liverpool have nothing to lose in hoping and trying to finish in top 4. This weekend they took another step in the right direction under Kenny Dalglish.

The success of Luis Suarez at Liverpool makes the £50 million spent on Fernando Torres even more painful. He is yet to score a goal for the Blues and more importantly put on a good show. Torres has looked a shadow of the player he was while Rafa was in charge at Liverpool but the man who replaced him at anfield for half the price looks twice the better player.

However, they scored 2 goals after Torres left the pitch and Chelsea continued their march to the top of the table. They are still a long way off the title but the win keeps their hopes alive. The need to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford to have any chance of regaining the league title but the win over City will do their confidence a world of good.

Luis Suarez

A contender to win the player of the month award for March, Suarez capped off the month in some style; scoring a goal from an improbable angle. As he did all afternoon, he shrugged off a challenge from a Sunderland defender before fooling the goal keeper and smashing the ball goal wards rather than crossing it for a team mate. It was easily the goal of the weekend and he earned himself yet another man of the match award. 80% of the Liverpool fans have voted for Suarez to be their player of the month for march on the official Liverpool FC website.

David Luiz

He too along with Luis Suarez was the less high profile signing for their respective clubs. While Torres made the headlines at Stamford Bridge and Andy Carroll at anfield, Suarez and Luiz have made all the headlines since then.

The Brazilian could also be in line for the player of the month gong along with Suarez, after he scored his second goal for the club in as many home games. However, it is his work rate and class in his own half that has won him plaudits from all quarters. He along with Suarez looks like the new stars of the English Premier League.

They have been sensational over the last two months. In fact wolves were fifth in the league for the month of February and sixth in the month of March. However, after two such successful months they are still in the relegation zones. Better things can be expected from them and on current form they should be playing in the top flight come the start of next season.
