Phil Neville set for Everton return

Everton captain Phil Neville says he is aiming to be fit for the club's mammoth clash against Chelsea this weekend.

Neville has been out of the side with a niggling knee injury that forced him to miss the 4-1 home defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion. The majority of Everton fans seem to agree he is vital to the defensive security of the team.

"The injury is coming on. It has taken longer than I thought to clear up but I should be back for the weekend," he told the Everton website.

Neville has admitted that he felt some stiffness in his knee during and after the game against Sunderland. He also admits that he probably should have asked to be taken off but felt obliged to play through any pain as the club's skipper.

"It was stiff after Sunderland and, having played that game, I probably knew I would miss West Brom but I should be back in full training by the middle of the week and then back in to face Chelsea," he added.

Neville points out that now is not the time for any attention to fall over one player such as himself. Everton has not had the best of seasons up to this point but Neville insists the club can push on from 16th place as long as the team takes responsibility.

"I think everyone is disappointed but the good thing is we are all taking responsibility for a poor performance [against West Brom]. There is no finger-pointing, no blaming each other and we all know it is not good enough. Under this manager there is no other way to sort it out than through sheer hard work. The boys have been on the training field again, working hard, and we all want to put it right," said Neville.

Betting advice

Neville adds a great deal of experience at full back in the team. His presence should enable more calculated decisions and it should make the Everton back four harder to get through. Back the team to be successful playing at home when Neville is in the side and wearing the captain's arm band.
