Part 2: Almeria vs. Real Madrid – Spanish La Liga - Review

The referee blew the full time whistle and players from both sides started a brawl. It was the Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas who started the fight with Fabian Andres Vargas. It was simply frustrating for Jose Mourinho’s side to have drawn against a team who lost with an eight goal margin to the Spanish Champions Barcelona.

The game had its turns throughout the 90 minutes. It was simply an intriguing game and a “must watch” for the Spanish La Liga fans. With Almeria taking the lead during the second half, the Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo wasted no time to take his shot on goal as Diego Alves was threatened by him. However, the Almeria goal stopper got his hands to it and made a fine save to help his team remain in the game.

In the first half, Real Madrid wasted a lot of chances and it was the Argentinean striker Angel Di Maria who wasted the best opportunity of the game. It was Cristiano Ronaldo who got past four Almeria defenders and shot the ball on Diego Alves’ goal. The Argentinean striker Angel Di Maria only had to slot in the ball from 12 yards out but he failed to do so and looped the ball high in the air which was later caught by the Almeria goalkeeper.

It wasn’t one-way traffic during the second half compared to the first half. Almeria were taking their shots on goal and making their efforts count by finding the target often. While Real Madrid were trying to find a goal, Almeria almost doubled their lead with the help of the substitute midfielder Fabian Andres Vargas. The Almeria play maker got the ball at his feet inside the 18 yard box and made a wonderful run towards the goal and shot the ball towards Iker Casillas who was taken by surprise. Even though the shot was blocked it was definitely a chance worth taking but Real Madrid decided to go on a break.

It was during the 88th minute when the Frenchman Karim Benzema found Esteban Grannero inside the danger zone and the Real Madrid youngster struck the ball inside the net to make it 1-1 for the visitors. The home team were definitely not trying to sit back as they started to make a move forward for a winner. However, Real Madrid looked to be dominant with sheer pace up front and they also tried to take all three points to keep the pressure on Barcelona.

The game ended with the Los Blancos shockingly losing two points to the bottom of the table side Almeria. Barcelona on the other hand won their game against Malaga and took the advantage of the draw between Real Madrid and Almeria and went to the top of the table with four points.
