  • Northampton Saints Dominated Wasps

London Wasps was expecting a win over the Northampton Saints to keep their hopes alive for playing in the play off stage. However Northampton Saints proved too much for the Wasps particularly after the return of five English players to their starting playing lineup after completing their six nation duties. With this win Northampton Saints have again secured the fourth place with 48 points at one point difference from the third place Gloucester Rugby.

Wasps although did manage to keep the passes going but unfortunately the real impactful passing was done during the first 9 minutes of the game. Saints were first to score in the match courtesy of their fly half Stephen Myler’s penalty during the fourth minute of the 1st half. Wasps replied courtesy of their fly half Dave Walder’s penalty during the 9th minute to level the scores at 3 – 3. This was the Walder’s and Wasps only scoring opportunity for the night as they fail to score any other point during the remaining time.

Saints on the other hand extended their lead with their Prop Mujati scoring a try in the 13th minute. Moments later it was followed by Myler’s 1st conversion of the night to take the score to 10 – 3.  Wasps then suffered a major blow that has deeply affected their progress in match when they lost Kefu through injury at the 20th minute of the game. Saints scored again with Myler scoring his second conversion and try during the 27th minute to take the score 17 – 3. At the end of the first half Full Back Foden scored a try to take the Saints 22 – 3 at the half time.

Saints enjoyed most of the ball possession during the 1st half and their control, dominance in the game was momentarily checked by the substitutes Serge Betsen and James Cannon. Both played attacking rugby to control the game and look like scoring before Saints No. 10 landed another penalty to extend the lead by 22 points.  While Wasps trying extra to reduce the deficit, the lost their exposure and started to make errors allowing the Saints to capitalize on those. Winger Ashton scored the fourth try for Saints in the 66th minute followed by their substituted fly half Geragahty’s conversion to take the score to 32 – 3.  With five minutes remaining in the game, substituted Scrum Half Stuart Commins scoring a try followed by Geragahty’s second conversion for the evening to complete an easy victory over Wasps with final scorecard reading 39 – 3. Saints have also bagged a bonus point that would greatly help their endeavors to play in the play offs. Saints will be hosting the Sale Sharks as they will be eyeing another bonus point and a win.
