Neymar da Silva will not join Chelsea
Neymar da Silva, Brazil’s rising star, looks unlikely to leave Santos anytime soon. The eighteen-year-old has been attracting a lot of attention from Europe’s biggest clubs, including Chelsea. Neymar was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last summer.
Neymar is considered the next big thing for the Brazil national side. His performances for his club have drawn comparisons to Brazilian idols, Robinho and Pele. Manchester United, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and a host of other big clubs are keen to employ the
youngster. Pele reportedly thinks so much of the player that he asked former Brazil manager Dunga, to include the youngster in the 2010 world cup in South Africa. Santos have valued their striker at 30 million euros. His contract with the club runs until 2014.
Chelsea’s signings in recent years have not justified their transfer fees. In January 2008, Chelsea signed Nicolas Anelka and Branislav Ivanovic. The Blues have spent a further 70 million pounds since that time and have acquired eight players, all of whom
have failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge. Last year, Chelsea had the option of signing Rafael Van der Vaart for a paltry eight million pounds. They did not take the chance. Van der Vaart went on to sign for Tottenham and has been putting in some terrific
performances for Spurs, leaving the Blues to rue their missed opportunity.
Chelsea are currently in the midst of their worst run, in over a decade. Blues boss Carlo Ancelloti has hinted that he is looking to bring in some new blood in January, to kick start their season into high gear. He already has the backing of owner Roman
Abramovich, who has given his manager money to spend in the upcoming transfer window. The Santos star was one of the players on Ancelloti’s radar. However, it seems as though Neymar has no immediate plans to leave his club. Neymar’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro,
says his client is going nowhere. Riberio said,
‘The chance that Neymar will leave Santos for Chelsea in this season, are nill Neymar wants to play the Copa Libertadores with Santos. I speak every day with Santos' chairman and I can say that Neymar won't go anywhere until the 2012 Olympics.’
