Mourinho confirms his magic trio, ‘Ronaldo - Benzema – Marcelo’ out against Spurs

Santiago Bernabeu boss affirmed that Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo Vieira, his magic trio, would miss the vital clash against Tottenham Hotspur and possibly also against Sporting Gijon. Cristiano Ronaldo would not play against Tottenham in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-final next week. The alluring French striker, Karim Benzema, faces a thigh injury and the 22-year-old Brazilian, Marcelo, has sore ribs. The Real Madrid ace, Cristiano Ronaldo, is having problems with recurring hamstring injury.

The most prolific player of Santiago Bernabeu picked an injury in a sensational 7 - 0 victory over Malaga. The Spanish Primera Division game was played last month and the official Madrid website confirmed that Cristiano had suffered an injury to his left hamstring. The club’s website recently confirmed that Cristiano’s inclusion in the final squad, against Tottenham in the UCL clash, is a doubt. The club further stated that after a thorough medical checkup at the Sanitas Hospital, it was found that Ronaldo has a first grade wound in his left hamstring.

It would be terrible blow to La Liga giants to lose their 80 million euro striker as he has dragged his tally to 27 league goals after scoring at Malaga. Cristiano has now leveled Barca’s maestro in the Castrol rankings. Lionel Messi and Ronaldo shared the place as the top scorers of BBVA La Liga. Madrid’s striker, Gonzalo Higuain, is the second in place with seven goals and Argentinean Di Maria is third with six goals. Madrid now seems to be closing their gap between Primera Division chart leader’s FC Barcelona, with contributions on the score sheet from the French striker, Karim Benzema, and the 23-year-old hitman, Di Maria.

Jose Mourinho revealed that doctors checked the trio and stated that Ronaldo, Marcelo and Benzema are not ready to play against Athletic de Bilbao on April 10th and also that Los Blancos would play without their three important players against Spurs in the Champions League clash on April 5. He said, “The game against Sporting Gijon is very important for us. Not as important as the upcoming Copa del Rey final, but more important than the the clash with Tottenham.” Mourinho also commented on the Argentinean maestro, Gonzalo Higuain’s recovery after a long layoff due to injury. He added, “Higuain's recovery is great news for us. He's back to full fitness again and will be very important for us in the final stages of the season. I want to congratulate him and the medical staff on his quick recovery.”

When questioned about his future at Bernabeu, the Portuguese manager stated that he is quite happy with his stay at Madrid. He asserted, “I still have a contract for four years, but that's not what's important here. What counts is that everybody's satisfied. I will stay put as long as everybody's happy. I'll stay here if the players, fans and club's direction want me to stay.”
