Michael Bush arrested for drunk driving, Claude Terrell for kidnap and rape, David Reed avoids jail and fine

Oakland Raiders running back Michael Bush was arrested on Saturday for drunk driving, former guard for the St. Louis Rams Claude Terrell has been charged with burglary, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping while David Reed, kick returner for the Baltimore Ravens, was not fined or jailed for a charge of marijuana possession.

No, this wasn’t some wild President’s Day party. All these events occurred separately but at around the same time.

Let’s start off with Bush. He was allegedly over the legal limit of blood-alcohol content by about .03. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 so if you took math, you can probably figure out that his blood-alcohol level was 0.11 percent. He was pulled over by police in Jefferson, Indiana with the incident first being reported by a local news station in Louisville.

According to James Ferguson, the Indiana state trooper that arrested Bush, he was caught on radar going about 45 mph (72 km/h) in a 35 mph (56 km/h) zone. When he was stopped early Saturday morning, he was administered two blood-alcohol tests and registered a 0.11 reading on both, according to the police report. If you’re in Indiana with a blood-alcohol content level of over 0.08, you’re drunk.

Bush is scheduled to appear in court in front of a judge on March 7. Larry Wilder, lawyer for the former University of Louisville star, said that Bush "is prepared to deal with the consequences of his decision and accept the full responsibility."

Bush is to be a free agent now that the 2010 season is over after finishing his fourth season with the Raiders. He had the best season of his career, racking up 655 rushing yards, 194 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

Moving onto a more serious case, Terrell has been charged in connection with an attack on Valentine’s Day in Texas. He is being held on $600,000 bail at Galveston County Jail in Texas. Jail records do not specify a lawyer for Terrell after he was arrested in Houston, Texas on Monday.

According to police, Terrell assaulted a woman over a period of seven hours on Monday in her home. Captain Brian Soetschuis says that the woman claims to have been assaulted at gunpoint.

This wasn’t the first time that something like this has happened with Terrell. The Rams released him in 2007 after he was arrested for assaulting his wife. At that time, he was already on probation for assault on another family member.

Lastly, Reed will not face time in jail or a fine for a charge brought against him for possession of marijuana. According to court records in Maryland, the case is closed. Reed was summoned to court last month after police entered his home and found a small amount of marijuana.

Reed received a “stet,” meaning that a plea other than guilty or not guilty was entered. Reed’s case will remain closed unless he commits another misdemeanor within the next three years, after which he can be punished for this charge as well.
