Giving the back ground of the deal, one of the officials of UB group said,

“UB plans to activate the deal just before the Cricket World Cup kicks off in February.”

India is a co-host of the upcoming cricket world cup; the country will organize the event ,along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This new endorsement has put M.S Dhoni at par with the Indian superstar, Shah Rukh Khan ,in endorsement space, just a little behind Amir Khan ,who was hired by Etisalat, the telecom operators, for Rs 30 crores.

After signing the endorsement, Dhoni will primarily remain associated with McDowell’s soda. However, a UB official told that the integrated deal will go beyond, mere brand endorsement. When media teams approached the UB Group’s spokesperson, to have more insight into the deal, she said:

Yes, a deal has been signed between the UB group and India’s Captain, MS Dhoni.”

However, she refused to provide any financial details of the contract. It is expected that a formal announcement will be made by, UB group, by January 2011, a little ahead of the world cup event.

The deal has been signed through a talent management and entertainment firm, known as Rhiti sports management. The firm had recently signed a contract worth 210-crores with the Indian captain; the contract will allow the firm to manage all endorsements, brand associations, patents, digital rights, images and social networking for the cricket star, for a period of three years. The owner Rhiti sports, Arun Pandey, could not be approached for his comments.MS Dhoni, the captain of the Indian cricket team, who had led the country to win T20 world cup in 2007, had been rated as the highest paid cricketer in the world. In last year alone, he earned about 10 million dollars from the board. While his income, from endorsement deals, was far greater than that.
