  • Los Blancos advancing into the second leg of their quarter-final Copa del Rey

Sergio Ramos, Mesut Oezil and like always, Cristiano Ronaldo were the stars for Real Madrid taking the home win 3-1 against Atletico Madrid.

This victory maintained the perfect record that Jose Mourinho and his team holds at Bernabeu, leaving the “Los Blancos” looking good when they were down by one in the early start of the game.

The away team had the perfect start as they took the lead just in the seven minutes of play inducing early pressure on the home side. Diego Forlan was the man for Atletico Madrid when he scored with a simple tap-in the net. Sergio Aguero picked the brilliant pass from Jose Antonio Reyes, marginally saved form being given an off-side and prodded the ball around Iker Casillas before Diego Forlan wrapped up the goal.

The Los Blancos had an imperious response to this early lead as Cristiano Ronaldo along with others severely attacked the visitors, and the attacking mid-fielder twice went close with his long range, but was luckless in his efforts. The ball either deflected wide or pushed clear by De Gea, who punched one goal-bound drive brilliantly clear.

But David de Gea contributed outstandingly midway through the first half when a powerful header from Ricardo Carvalho was turned away in the process sharply, when it nearly made the bottom of the net.

The attack did not subsidize yet as on the hour mark, the home side gained their deserved lead. Ronaldo slid at the back post from Oezil’s angled cross and it went decisively gaining the second goal for Real Madrid and his first ever against Atletico Madrid.

Although the game was going dominantly in favor of the home side, it was Los Colchoneros who came to the action with their debutant Juanfran setting up a chance for Aguero, but the goalkeeper of the year Iker Casillas made no mistake kicking the shot clear of the post.

Atletico Madrid were firm in their attack when they came closer moments latter with the long diagonal pass from Reyes met Aguero but could not muster the equalizer as the shot wqas thwarted Casillas. Forlan could not make much of the rebound as he shot the awkwardly bouncing ball against the post.

Just 30 seconds left to the game Jose Mourinho’s men were given the comfortable advantage as he increased their goal gap by two goals going into the second leg. An ugly rebound in the middle of Atletic defense came promisingly for the German, who slid the perfect finish into the corner of the goal.

Mesut Oezil score helped the Real Madrid take the 3-1 advantage into the second leg of their quarter-final Copa del Rey tie, against their great city rivals.

The whole fixture was played at high octane pace from the outset as Ronaldo and Oezil continued to threat the visitor’s post maintaining the theme of the game to continue dominating in what was an extremely open and entertaining match.
