La Liga news update: Jose Mourinho says ‘We need another striker but not because of Benzema’

Real Madrid thrashed Athletico Madrid in a sensational 3 - 1 home victory in the semi finals of the Copa del Ray after a tie match in the first leg of quarter final on Thursday. Real boss, Jose Mourinho, was not happy with the performance of Karim Benzema and also expressed his opinion about the Argentinean International, Gonzalo Higuain, who will miss the rest of the season because the club has decided to back him in the current transfer window.

The 47 years old Portuguese trainer gave another chance to the alluring striker, Benzema, but was disappointed when the latter was substituted with Kaka and the score was 1 - 1 at that time. Madrid boss still believes that Karim Benzema is playing way too below his potential and affirms that he is a reckless striker who wants his companions to play, he is not selfish. He had lost a simple chance but failed to convert it into a goal. He said, “I am still optimistic about a new striker in this transfer window and it’ s not all because of Benzema, it’s about increasing our striking power. When I see on the bench, I don’t see any striker, I rather see Lassana Diarra, Fernando Gago and Esteban Granero.”

The coach is ready for the acquisition of another forward, he wanted to continue the same form – the way team is playing right now. The ex - Chelsea coach discussed the return of Brazilian star footballer, Kaka. Kaka returned to the squad after a long injury since May. He scored a spectacular goal in a 4 - 2 defeat of Villarreal.

The 23 years old French - man was the top scorer of Ligue 1 for the year 2007 - 2008 but currently in a woeful run. Friday’s media reports and newspapers are raising question marks on the future of the striker with Santiago Bernabeu. But the coach wants to retain him in the squad; he stated that he admired Higuain and Benzema in their own specific style and persona.

The 47 years old Portuguese said, “I like to have more than one option and when we play with one striker, I like to have one on the back up and ready to come on. I feel adverse right now because one of them is injured. My team started this season with two strikers but we have one now and that too not in a good form. May be I am a bit more pessimistic but I have an understanding that injuries like herniated disc and spine problems take time to recover and I know Higuain will take time to recover.”

Mourinho also commented on FC Barcelona by asserting that even they had beaten Real Madrid in a 5 - 0 home game, but still they are not the best side in the world. According to him, the best team is Inter Milan which had won Champions League last year and FIFA Club World Cup 2010.
