Karim Benzema: "We don't want to dwell on the Barcelona game and talk about them” – La Liga News

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has insisted that his side are not focusing on the El Clasico on the 10th of December. The French international stated that his team was not distracted by the huge match which will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Although the match is only two fixtures away, both sets of players refuse to make comments about it. Benzema has stated side’s current focus is the match against Sporting Gijon.

Jose Mourinho’s men will travel to El Molinon today to face Sporting Gijon as they look to increase their advantage over Barcelona at the top of the table in terms of points. Real Madrid lost in the same fixture in last season’s campaign.

The Frenchman has suggested that the match against Sporting Gijon will be competitive fixture and that he expects a tough fixture. Hence, he insisted that his team are focused on Saturday’s game.

According to the AS newspaper, Benzema was quoted as saying:

"Sporting comes first. It will be a tough game because they are in need of points. We don't want to dwell on the Barcelona game and talk about them.”

While discussing the El Clasico, he stated:

"We don't want to dwell on the Barcelona game and talk about them. We know they are one of the best teams in the world but I will tell you one thing: we are ready for the challenge."

The Frenchman also expressed that he was pleased with the fact that he had been allowed more time on the pitch by manager, Jose Mourinho. The forward was in the starting line-up in last three matches that Madrid have played.

The 24-year-old expressed hope in keeping his spot in the starting team against Sporting Gijon and Barcelona.

"I am ready to play but we have a large squad and there are many players here who could be called upon to play Barca. I will work hard, I have the coach's trust and I am happy to have played the last three games."

Real Madrid will host Barcelona on the 10th December, at Santigao Bernabeu. The highly anticipated fixture is expected to be very competitive and entertaining.
