ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifier - Ireland v USA – First Innings Report

Under 19 Team of Ireland and United States of America (USA) are playing a match of World Cup Qualifier at Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin.

Earlier, Irish skipper, George Henry Dockrell won the toss, and decided to fielfd first with the approach of restricting opponents on a low total by utilizing the cloudy conditions.

The USA’s opening batsmen, Steven R Taylor, and Cameron Mirza started the inning, and, on the other hand, Dockrell handed new ball to the 18-year-old, right-arm fast bowler, John McCarter.

McCarter started his bowling spell with tight line and length, and kept pressure on USA along with his partner, the left-arm pacer, Hugh McDonnell.

Both the Ireland’s opening bowler, were not offering anything to the opponents to play big hits, as USA’s openers were looking uncomfortable.

The batting side faced first blow, when McCarter bowled out the wicketkeeper batsman Mirza on duck on a short length ball.

After the Mirza’s departure, the left-handed batsman, Amarnauth Persaud joined Taylor at the crease, both batsmen showed maturity, and played sensibly to save the team from early collapse, as Irish bowlers were mingling their line smartly.

Both batsmen put a partnership of 63 runs together, which was the highest of the USA’s inning; however, they failed to keep the same momentum to extract their side from a trouble, as well settled Taylor, who faced 70 balls, thrown away his wicket to Barry McCarthy while trying to cut the ball on 28 runs.

After the Taylor’s wicket, USA’s batting line up started collapsing, lost their skipper, Gregory Raj Sewdial on 4 runs, and Abhijit Chidambar Joshi on 1 run, McCarthy, and the slow left-arm orthodox, bowler, George Henry Dockrell picked them to pavilion respectively.

At that time USA was on 79 runs with the loss of 3 wickets, and right after this double blow, they also lost their last hope, Persaud on 24 runs, who was batting well under pressure, however, failed to deceive the McCarthy’s ball, and gave easy catch to the Irish wicketkeeper, Niall Hodgins.

After that the batting team kept losing their wickets with the regular interval of time, but Jodhbir Singh Sandhu showed some fight back by smashing handy 36 runs on 57 balls with the help of 3 sixers

Courtesy to Sandhu’s knock, and 35 extra runs, which were given by the Irish bowlers, USA made 177 runs with the loss of 9 wickets.

Meanwhile, Ireland bowling line up was right on the money throughout the USA’s inning, McCarter, Dockrell, and Joshua Robert Neville Hall took 1 wicket each, and McCarthy picked 3 wickets.
