IAAF World Championships, Moscow, 2013, Basic Information for athletes and spectators

The IAAF World Championships in Athletics has been decided to have its fourteenth edition in Moscow, Russia. As per the dates approved by the Council of the IAAF, the event will take place from August 10 to August 18.

The bidding procedure for the global athletics championships event began back on December 1st, 2006 when it was confirmed that four cities, i.e. Gothenburg, Barcelona, Brisbane and Moscow had the candidature for the event. As the procedure for final selection lingered on, Gothenburg decided to withdraw its name from the potential hosts' list of the cities for the event as the Swedish government could not assure for the provision of the required financial support. Thus, in a meeting in Mombasa on March 07, 2007, the IAAF Council decided to grant the privilege to host the event to Moscow.
