Harry Redknapp reveals failed bid to land Giuseppe Rossi

Harry Redknapp, who has recently gone on to make a name for himself for being a last minute bidder for players, was expected to land a new player on the dead-line day of the January transfer window. The manager has insisted that he was looking to strengthen his strikeforce and as a result, some of the top names in the world of football were being linked with a move to White Hart Lane.

Redknapp, who spent most of his time in the Tottenham training ground, had gone on to shortlist his candidates as, Fernando Llorente from Athletic Bilbao, Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid and Gisueppe Rossi from Villareal. However despite the managers best efforts, neither one of those players ended up signing for the team in the end.

Nonetheless, Tottenham looked to be on a rampage and were willing to whip out major sums of cash to land their possible candidates. The team made an audacious bid, worth around thirty eight and a half million pounds for Argentine forward Aguero and were willing to pay as much as thirty five million pound for Rossi. If either one of the bids were accepted, then the team would have smashed their own personal transfer record, which currently stands at sixteen and a half million pounds, which was spent on Luka Modric. However, with this attempt by Tottenham to land the player, it has become clear that the team is no longer going to sit in the shadows of the bigger teams in Europe and are now in serious contention to land some of the bigger names in Europe.

Redknapp is reported to have said: "Daniel always said that if we found the right player then we would have gone for him but it was difficult. He tried something with Rossi. I think he offered £35m in the end. It's hard to get top players unless you pay top money.

"You couldn't get Rossi because Villarreal don't want to sell you him. The chairman would have bought someone for £30m though, for sure. He wanted to bring someone in. There was no doubt that he wanted to do it. He wanted to get somebody in and if Daniel and Joe Lewis can find the right people they will have a go again."

With the manager coming forth with those statements, the rumours regarding Tottenham’s ridiculous bids were confirmed. It is still not clear as to where the team has landed this pile of money, which they aren’t hesitating to blow in the transfer market, but if they keep up with this rate, then there could be a host of world class talents at the White Hart Lane at the start of next season.
