Guillermo Ochoa attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain – Report

Reports in France suggest that ambitious Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain are close to signing Mexican international goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa from Mexican Primera Division club America.

The news comes in after former France international shot-stopper Gregory Coupet decided to hang his gloves. Les Parisiens initially decided to sign Nicolas Douchez from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais. However, a move couldn’t materialise. It now appears that the 25-year-old is edging close towards a move to the Parc des Princes. Ochoa’s agent Jorge Berlanga has admitted of PSG’s interest in the promising goalie but has said that he is not sure when a move would finalise.

The young keeper is still an unknown quantity in Europe but enjoys an elevated status in the South American region. Beyond his good run in the Mexican Primera Division, the youngster has been an integral part of El Tri, the Mexican national side. So far the youngster has made 37 appearances for the Aztec warriors.

Though nothing has been finalised, it seems that “Memo” might earn a move to a European club in the summer transfer window. The youngster came close to a move to the English Premier League in the January transfer window when London-based club Fulham FC invited the Mexican for a trial. However, a move couldn’t materialise at that time as the-then Fulham manager Mark Hughes chose not to sign the youngster.

Currently, PSG have just one goalkeeper in their ranks. Armenian international Apoula Edel has failed to convince manager Antoine Kombouare during his stay at the club so a move for Ochoa seems even more logical.

Since making his debut in 2004 for Club America, Ochoa has went on to make 211 appearances for Los Aguilas and has now become the undisputed number one under America boss Carlos Reinoso. A move for a young and talented goalkeeper should make a lot of difference to PSG’s defence, which sometimes showed its fragility in the recently concluded 2010/2011 Ligue 1 season. However, the stumbling block in the transfer could be America’s president Michel Bauer who feels that Ochoa needs to stay at the Aztec side for one more season before leaving the Estadio Azteca. However, it has been reported that PSG have already offered the Mexican club 7.75 million Euros for the promising goalkeeper.
