Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli ripe to carry on the two legacies

All is destined to change and be replaced. The same goes with the game of cricket that continuously experiences new talents replacing the old ones. Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag have been ruling over Indian cricket since long but now their tenure is over and the young talents like Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli are all ready and fully ripe to hold the reins of legacy from them with a promise to perpetuate it. With their marvelous performances and stunning achievements, the two young guys have proved that they can be the sound substitutes of Tendulkar and Sehwag.

The ICC World Cup 2011 was the last tournament of both the legends, Tendulkar and Sehwag who will have retired by the next edition of 2015. Both possess a lot of experience and professional skills and thus form the opening pair of the strongest batting line of the world of cricket. They are regarded as an ideal opening pair that, when on the field, grips the eyes of the cricket lovers with sterling shots and terrific boundaries. Both the batting masters have been in good form throughout the tournament and have contributed a bulk part to India’s efforts to lift the World Cup Trophy for the second time after an interval of 28 years.

Gambhir and Kohli are two top-order batsmen who pose to be the ideal and only, if not perfect, alternatives of Tendulkar and Sehwag who are going to retire from international cricket. The 29-year-old Gambhir and 22-year-old Kohli possess abundant and excellent batting skills along with aggression and winning-aptitudes. Throughout the World Cup 2011 campaign, these two young batsmen had been exquisite in spirit and form, showing responsible games and contributing match-winning runs. Playing under the supervision of Tendulkar and Sehwag, they have learnt professional cricket to an extra-ordinary extent.

The left-handed Gautam and right hander Kohli make a strong batting pair that can upset any bowler of any team and can also ensure any big victory. Gautam started his international career in 2003 while Kohli appeared in the cricket stage in 2008. Kohli has 44.40 while Gambhir contains 40.73 run average in ODI cricket. Both guys exhibit sensible and timely batting. They also realize and fulfill the responsibility of steering their side to the verge of victory in every game. They own both consistency and confidence.

In the final game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, it was Kohli and Gambhir who helped their side in the big run chase against Sri Lanka. In the evening of 2nd April, India started the innings with a target of 274. The two legends, Sehwag and Tendulkar, collapsed early and the Indian Cricket lovers got disappointed of their side’ s victory but Gambhir and Kohli came up to support and stabilized the innings with a great sense of responsibility and sensibility. It was all due to their efforts that India made a stunning turnaround and claimed the biggest victory at their history. Gambhir scored 97 off of 122 deliveries, causing sheer upset to the Lankan bowlers. He kept the scorecard ticking till the 42nd over when he fell unfortunately just 3 runs away of his century. Kohli played excellently and scored 35 before accidentally falling to Tillakaratne Dilshan. However, his contribution stood in a good stead to India in meeting the target.

There is no denying the fact that these two batsmen played an instrumental role in bringing celebrations and delights all around India. They sent an encouraging message to both the team managements and the Indian cricket worshipers that there is no need to get upset after the departure of Tendulkar and Sehwag as they are able to replace these legends along with their legacy.
