Feyenoord Rotterdam’s Stefan de Vrij dreams Barcelona move

Feyenoord Rotterdam’s young defender, Stefan de Vrij, has revealed that his ambition is to play in La Liga giants, Barcelona FC. The 19-year-old centre back performances at Eredivisie fallen giants have attracted interests from top-notch European clubs including Arsenal FC. However, the Dutch U-17 international has now dashed the Gunners’ hopes to secure his services by ignoring any possible move to England.

De Vrij said, “It'll be best for my career to move to Spain or Germany when I decide to leave Feyenoord. Teams from those countries show better build-up play than English teams. It is my ultimate dream to eventually join Barcelona. I think I have what it takes to end up at a club like that at some point in my career”

“My greatest dream is to join Barcelona and I have the capital to realize the dream of playing in a big team. You do not know what will happen, but it might just happen if I can improve”, he concluded.

The Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger, is in search of a defender and the 19-year-old centre back was his primary choice, as he showed great interest in signing De Stadionclub prodigy in the winter transfer market. However, the deal was failed to materialize as both sides failed to agree on terms. Wenger was hoping to secure the centre back services at the end of the season, but the 19-year-old statement has now dashed all the possibilities of securing his services.

Pundits suggest that the 19-year-old centre back would groom better under the leadership of Wenger, as the tactician has always been known for turning raw talent into scorching diamonds. Wenger has a history of discovering unknown talent, as he has discovered players like Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott, Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy who have became vital part of the Gunners starting eleven.

However, De Vrij has denied any possibility to play in England. The 19-year-old contract with De Stadionclub runs until the summer of 2012. Reports suggest that the Rotterdam outfit are trying to offer the Dutch U-17 international a new contract to maximise the profit when they cash-in the prodigy. It is believed that De Stadionclub management could be tempted to let go off their prized asset if any significant offer is made.

The 19-year-old centre back is the product of the Rotterdam outfit’s youth academy. He started his professional career in 2009/10 season and has represented De Stadionclub in 38 matches. His performances have attracted interest from many clubs, but pundits suggest that the centre back should remain at his current club to maximise his abilities and then think of a potential move. However, a move to Emirates now under the leadership of Wenger would suit him the best.
