Fernando Torres keen to rejoin Atletico Madrid

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has shown his keenness to join Atletico Madrid again and finish his career in a Madrid kit.

The high-flying striker is an Atletico product and started his career by going through the youth system of the club. He was just an 11 year old when he impressed the Atletico scouts and got recruited in the club.

El Nino, while playing for the club’s youth team, won an important youth title with the club in 1998. He was also a part of the winning Nike Cup team in which Los Colchoneros competed with the other youth teams from different clubs.

The young striker progressed through the youth system and made his debut for the club on 27 May, 2001 against CD Leganes. Torres initially did not perform up to the mark but slowly and gradually he got his groove and started making hay for the other teams.

His presence was just enough to help Atletico qualify for the La Liga. During his first La Liga season, the striker managed 13 goals from 29 appearances but as the time passed by, Torres was developing into a force.

During his stint with the club, Torres made 249 appearances for the club and scored 91 goals in all the competitions. The 2003-04 and 2004-05 season were the best in terms of the goals scored by the striker. He finished with 21 and 20 goals from 40 and 49 appearances respectively.

Torres, after the 2006 FIFA World Cup claimed that he was approached by Chelsea in 2005 but he turned down their offer in order to play for his home club.

Growth in the Spaniard’s stature as a player and a prolific goal scorer was not to be overlooked by the big clubs all over. But he was finally sold to another English premier league side, Liverpool, in 2007.

Torres was warmly welcomed to Anfield and already became a hit without making any sort of a significant impact in his early days at the club. In his first game for the club, he came out on top after beating Aston Villa. The Spaniard’s 1st goal for Liverpool came against his current employers Chelsea in a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

El Nino made a total of 142 appearances in the Reds shirt and scored 81 goals in all competitions. During his 1st season at the club, the striker scored 33 goals from 46 appearances that marked the arrival of a prolific star.

Torres spent three and a half years at the club but his desire to win any silverware could not come true. Therefore, he made a record move to Chelsea. He also became the most expensive Spaniard in the history in this way.

Now, Torres wishes to go back to his parent club, Atletico Madrid and wants to finish his career in front of his fans, who still praise him highly at the club. He could make this move once he completes his services with Chelsea.
