Europa League Goal Summary: FC Porto 5-1 Villareal – Porto thump five past Villareal (Part 1)

Villareal travelled to Portugal to take on FC Porto at the Estadio do Dragao, in what was the first leg encounter between both the sides in the Europa League. Despite the constant being hailed as one of the most evenly matched games in the tournament, Porto made short work of Villareal as they put five past the yellow submarine while conceding only one goal in the process. The goals on the night for Porto were scored by Radamel Falcao (X4) and Fredy Guarin. On the other hand, the solitary goal for Villareal came via Cani.

The first goal of the game came in the 45th minute of the game, just before the stroke of half-time. Nilmar used his burst of speed to get down the flank and whip in a teasing cross in the Porto area. Cani was the quickest to react and sent his glancing header into the back of the goal to give his side the lead in the game.

Things changes almost immediately as the second-half kicked off, as Diego Lopez went on to take down Falcao in the area. The keeper was shown a yellow card for his challenge and a penalty was awarded to Porto as a result. Falcao stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and in the 49th minute the scores were level, due to a perfectly placed spot-kick by the striker.

That goal was just the start of things for the Portuguese club, as they slowly started to get a firm footing in the game following their opening goal. In the 61st minute, Porto went on to take the lead in the game and put some more pressure on Villareal.

Guarin was given space in the Villareal area, as he knocked the ball towards the goal. However the player’s initially effort was brilliantly denied by Lopez, but, unfortunately for the keeper, Guarin managed to pounce on the loose ball and headed over the stranded Lopez to give his side the one goal advantage in the game.

Porto then went on to significantly step their game up and within a matter of minutes were on the score sheet once again. In the 67th minute, Falcao continued his fine form, as he found the back of the net for the Portuguese champions. Hulk stormed down the right flank causing all sorts of chaos for Villareal, before ultimately playing Falcao on in front of the goal. The striker then went on to use his fiery touch and form, as he found the back of the net, without any effort.
