England Second Innings- Second Test- Second 15 overs Report

England were at 57 for the loss of one wicket at the end of 15 overs in their second innings during the second Test match against Sri Lanka at Lord’s, London. Alastair Cook was batting on 27 and Jonathan Trott batting on 23 with Dilhara Fernando and Farveez Maharoof on the attack.

The 16th over of England’s second innings was bowled by Maharoof with Trott on strike. Maharoof bowled a no-ball to start with and Trott could not get into position early to pull the short ball from Maharoof to mid-wicket boundary and ball hit him on his body after getting inside edge of his bat.

On the third ball Trott again repeated the same shot but could only manage to run for a single and rotated the strike and the next three balls did not earn any runs for the home side.

Fernando just bowled two balls of the next over and the batsmen called for a bad light, umpires checked the light with the meter and decided to leave the ground. After resumption of play, Fernando bowled the third ball and was whacked for a boundary towards deep mid-wicket.

On the next three balls he just gave one run to the opposition.

In the 18th over Trott smashed a couple of boundaries to Maharoof and took a single on the last ball of the over and pushed his team’s total to 75 for the loss of one wicket.

The 19th over was bowled by Fernando and just gave four runs. Sri Lankan Skipper Dilshan brought RAS Lakmal into the attack in the 20th over. Lakmal conceded just two runs in his comeback over.

Fernando continued his bowling and bowled the 21st over and conceded eight runs in the over, two couples on the first two balls and was whacked for a boundary on the fifth ball of the over by Trott and reached close to his yet another half-century with just one run away.

In the 22nd over Cook took a double on the second ball and then did not take any single and kept the Trott off the strike who was just one run away from his fifty.

On the third ball of the 23rd over Trott smashed a boundary and completed his half-century. The both batsmen were playing tremendously and patiently. They worked the ball into the gaps expertly and put the odd ball for a boundary. They kept on playing with the same mode until the 26th over.

On the fourth ball of the 26th over Rangana Herath clean bowled Trott. So he went back to the pavilion after scoring responsible 58 runs off 75 balls and struck nine boundaries.

On the second ball of the 27th over, Cook reached to his fifty by smashing a boundary through cover region. Kevin Pietersen came into the middle after the wicket of Trott.

For the next three overs the visitors kept the Poms’ batsmen quiet. So at the end of 30th over England were at 128 for the loss of two wickets with Cook batting on 53 runs and Pietersen on 3.
