Disney’s Field Hockey Showcase to begin today

 

The Disney’s Field Hockey Showcase is going to start today, 10th of February in the HESS® Sports Field at the ESPN Wide World of Sports® Complex. It shall be a four day event ending up on the 13th of February.

This field is officially owned by the Walt Disney World® Resort and has a total of seven grass fields and four convertible ones.

Due to an excess demand the event has been restricted to two age divisions namely the U16 and U19. The eligibility is confined to girls only. The registration for the showcase has been carried out on 9th February for both the age divisions.

The condition to qualify for the registration was that teams must have been a well-ranked member of the club recognized as ‘Club Member of USA Field Hockey’.

Disney has also created a new event called Disney Summer 7s and 11s National Club Championship, which is for the U12 and U14 age groups, just to meet the demand a bit more.

A total of 64 clubs have participated for the U16 that have been divided into Pools A-P, each comprising of four teams. Whereas, the U19 comprises of 80 clubs divided in a group of four in Pools A-T. These pools have been shown below:

In this Showcase, each game will be played for a duration of 50 minutes, which means each half will be of 25 minutes. Teams will earn 3 points for a win, 0 for a lose and 1 for a draw.

In case of any unfavourable weather condition, the Tournament Director is authorized to shorten, reschedule or cancel the match.

The two games that are to be held today, 10th February, will be broadcasted live on ESPN3. These two matches are:

Connecticut Revolution VS Pinnacle at Field 17

Quik Stix VS Viper Red at Field 17

These games will feature live commentary by Amy Tran, a US National Team member. The matches shall also be available as live online at ESPN3.com
