Daniel Alves keen to sign new Barcelona deal

Barcelona defender Daniel Alves says that he is ready to put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the club after he played a part in their 5-0 demolition of Real Madrid.

The sides met in he first El Clasico encounter of the season at the Camp Nou on Monday 29 November. Barca raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 18 minutes through influential midfielder Xavi Hernandez and his fellow Spain international, winger Pedro Rodriguez.

Their 2010 FIFA World Cup-winning team-mate David Villa made it four when he his a quickfire double in the second-half, and substitute Jeffren Suarez turned in Bojan Krkic's injury-time cross to complete the rout over a Madrid side who had previously gone undefeated under manager Jose Mourinho.

Brazil international Alves had been unsure whether  to extend his stay with the Catalan giants, but after such a dominant display, he claims that he is ready to remain with Barca beyond the end of his present deal, which is set to run out in June 2012.

The 27-year-old told Spanish publication Marca: "I would like to continue to produce these kinds of performances with Barcelona. I am under contract until 2012 and if the Almighty wants, I will renew it. It's in my best interests.”

The right-back made the switch to the Camp Nou from Sevilla in 2008 and has established himself as one of the world's foremost attacking full-backs with a string of outstanding displays.

He has made 122 appearances in total for Pep Guardiola's side and has scored 10 goals, setting up another 37 for his team-mates.

Alves was a key member of the side which claimed six trophies in 2009, including the La Liga title, UEFA Champions League, Spanish Cup, Spanish Supercup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
