Chicago Fire hit the news with the acquisition of Dominic Oduro and Yamith Cuesta

After drawing the 2011 Major League Soccer season opener at Pizza Hut Park against Texas-based outfit, FC Dallas, Chicago Fire are at-last in the news. The team is currently pursuing the acquisitions of Dominic Oduro and Yamith Cuesta, in order to reinforce the offence and defence, respectively.

Both the players belong to different MLS outfits and are being exchanged. Oduro will land at Toyota Park this week in exchange of Calen Carr to Houston Dynamo whereas; Cuesta’s acquisition became possible in exchange of the 2012 Supplemental Draft Pick to Chivas USA.

Oduro had been with Dynamo for the last two years since his move from New York Red Bulls in 2009. The player has scored six goals for the team in 44 appearances for the team. Five of the half a dozen goals came last year. The player has provided a great support to the team besides the number of goals and has the capability of serving as a winger in addition to playing up top.

Fire Technical Director, Frank Klopas thinks the acquisition in the forward line-up is the best option in the current circumstances and the number of players available. Oduro’s fitness as opposed Carr’s is very impressive and player possesses a lot of options in the field. Although it is all on manager, Carlos de los Cobos’s discretion, the player might give the management a chance to test other players in different positions. “It all depends how Cobos wants to play,” Klopas said. “I think he can play out wide because he’s got a lot of pace, but he can certainly play up top, too. It just depends. He gives us more options.”

The player with whom Oduro is being exchanged has been facing some problems with the outfit. The player has been prone to injuries over the last two years and his presence in the field has always been undecided. Carr scored a total of nine goals for the team in 82 appearances. However, the new team opportunities might bear fruit to the player and his new team, Houston Dynamo.

As far as team’s defence is concerned, Cuesta certainly brings depth to the experience. The player has been with one of the main stream clubs in MLS and his presence in the back line will certainly bring strength to the guard.

The manager thinks that Cuesta’s physical appearance has been enough for oppositions’ forward line-ups to fear him and he brings exactly what the team needs. “He’s mature, he’s very strong and he’s good with the ball,” said los Cobos. “We are trying to create a very solid block in defense and I’m sure that he will be a part of that block. It’s good for the team to get him.”

Hopefully, the two new faces will join the team on Thursday especially before the team faces Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, March 26 at Toyota Park.
