  • Carlo Ancelotti considers Manchester City game must win

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti concedes that only a victory against big spender’s Manchester City will be on players mind as they can’t afford anymore slip-up’s.

Carlo Ancelotti will host his fellow country men Roberto Mancini at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in a match that is crucial for both side’s title aspirations. On Saturday, Arsenal slipped up against West Brom and Manchester United lucky to grab a win against Bolton, both will be keeping a close eye on the proceedings. Arsenal are Four points behind League leader’s Man Utd and Man City a further five points behind. Chelsea do have a game in hand over their rivals.

Ancelotti knows that any stumble will surely end their slim hopes of retaining the Title, as they try to come out of a poor run of form which has seen them slide down from top to fourth.

"It's important we win to clarify our position in the table," said the boss.

"At the moment, our position is not so clear. After this game, it'll be clear what we're going to do in the Premier League."

Although the Italian was quite lighthearted about the topic with the press, he insists he is well aware that Chelsea have suffered three straight defeats at the hands of the Citizens, but believes they are better-equipped to deal with the Mancini game plan.

"I think that all three games we lost on counter-attacks. City will try to do the same now," he added.

"They are very dangerous on the counter-attack, so we have to avoid this and maintain good balance on the pitch.

"He's a very intelligent coach who prepares a tactical game very well. That's the reason I have difficulty against him. I hope to change that on Sunday."

Meanwhile, Man City record signing Mario Balotelli has unconditionally apologized for his behavior in the Europa League game against Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev. He was shown a straight red card after a high challenge on Goran Popov. He is not expected to be named in the squad to face Chelsea as Mancini is furious with his tactics.

Former Inter Milan star Balotelli said: "I am very sorry to my team-mates in particular that I got sent off so early in such an important game.

"I was trying my best for the team as I always do. The ball was in the air and I went for it with my foot high.

He was also sent off against West Bromwich Albion in November and has also spent part of the campaign sidelined with a knee injury.
