Canadian Ladies hammer Barbados by 10-0 at the Pan American Games

The Canadian national women hockey team started the Pan American Games campaign on a perfect note as it defeated its Barbados counterparts by 10-0 in the opening match of the event in Guadalajara, Mexico on Wednesday, October 19.

The match was a completely one-sided show by the Canadian women as they perfectly dominated their counterparts from the beginning of the match till the conclusion.

The Canadian women remained matchless in their attack as well as in their defence throughout the entire seventy minutes where they almost scored a dozen of goals.

They exhibited a perfect class along with excellent dribbling skills and a beautiful control over the ball in the entire match.

While demonstrating such an impressive performance, the Canadian ladies scored six goals in the first thirty five minutes while four in the later part of the match whereas their opponents remained goalless in the entire course of action.

The first half started with an early action by the Canadian ladies as they took just five minutes into the match to open their account.

Brienne Stairs made a wonderful strike in the 5th minute and put Canada into a single goal lead just at the right time.

The Canadian athletes took another ten minutes to double their lead when the skipper, Katie Baker, scored a sensational field beauty in the 16th minute.

The Canadian athletes continued with the same pace as they were awarded a couple of penalty corners in the next ten minutes which they did not waste by making any mistakes and further strengthened their lead before the interval.

The third goal was scored by Thea Culley on a penalty corner in the 20th minute followed by another drag flick beauty by Brienne Stairs in the 26th minute.

The Canadian ladies did not stop at that point instead they further pressed the Barbados defence-line and found their net twice before the interval.

Kate Gillis scored the fifth goal in the 30th minute before Hannah Haughn made it 6-0 in the very next minute with an astonishing open play goal. The first half ended at 6-0 to Canada.

The second half also depicted a similar picture as the first half. The Canadian women were unstoppable in the second half as well.

They began their action just two minutes into the play when they were awarded another penalty corner in the 37th minute. Diana Roemer made no mistake and scored their 7th goal of the match.

They had to wait only for eight minutes to, once again, bring the action back into sight when Brienne Stairs completed her hat-trick in the 45th minute followed by another field beauty from Abigail Raye in the 61st minute.

The action was completed by Thea Culley when she scored her second but last goal of the match in the 68th minute.

The Canadians thumped Barbados with an ultimate victory of 6-0, bagging their first match superbly at the Pan American Games.
