Bundesliga update: Mathias Jorgensen on Bayer Leverkusen’s radar

German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have their eyes fixed upon the FC Copenhagen’s centre back Mathias Jorgensen. The young Danish has already gained a lot of reputation among his club and within the Denmark national team at a young age of 20.

Leverkusen are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga, 10 points behind the leaders Borussia Dortmund. The Werkself officials are very much satisfied by the team’s current display and have already started to look into the future by having various players on their radar to sign in summer.

FC Copenhagen’s youngster has also invited a lot of interest from some English clubs like Everton and Tottenham while another Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have also reportedly shown their interest in the 20 year old.

The Wekself’s 37 year old centre back and former Liverpool man, Sami Hypia is currently doing more than a fine job at the club since he joined in 2009 after his contract expired with Liverpool. But the club officials have shown their concern over the growing age of the Finnish as they believe that the centre back won’t be able to cope with the game’s increasing pace even though the centre back is fully committed to the club.

The 20 year old Jorgensen is already just a step away from attaining the silverware with his Danish club as they lead the 2nd placed Odense Boldklub by a massive 19 points.

Attaining such heights at this young age will surely invite bids from many leading clubs. The centre back has already appeared 70 times for his club and has been formidable at the back. He also has scored 6 goals in the process.

Bayer Leverkusen officials are expected to hold talks for the possible landing of the centre back in January which will also release a bit of pressure on Hypia.

The tall Finish international has appeared 43 times for the club in all competitions alongside scoring 3 goals. He managed 34 appearances in all of the last 2009-10 season and surprised everyone with his enthusiasm and devotion for the game. He also scored 2 goals during the same season.

Jorgensen have already achieved some honours in his young career, the biggest being the Players’ Talent of the year award which he got in 2008.

The Werkself officials will certainly be looking to sign the young centre back and build upon their performances from this season. The officials have started looking forward to hold talks with the Danish as the Bundesliga season is coming to its close with just 12 matches left to be played.

If the young centre back agrees upon this deal, He will certainly be in with a huge challenge of filling the boots of the defender, as good as Hypia.
