Brian Lara was scared of real pacers: says Michael Holding – Cricket News Update
Former West Indies fast bowler, Michael Holding stated that the Caribbean batting king, Brian Lara was not technically sound batsman against the fast bowling.
“Lara made runs against spinners and medium-pacers, but used to be in trouble against real pace, like against Shoaib Akhtar or Wasim Akram.” The Caribbean pacer said.
However, the former fast bowler, Holding, termed the left-handed batsman, Lara as one of the best batsmen to play against quality spinners, and medium pacers.
“I have never seen a batsman play spin and medium-pace better than Lara and I say that keeping in mind Vivian Richards, who is the best batsman I have seen.” He added.
Lara, who represented West Indies in 131 Test matches, scoring 11953 runs with an average of 52.88, had been right on the money with his batting performance.
He started his international career in 1990, and since then the Trinidad-born batsman had always been shattering the World’s best bowling attacks.
The 42-year-old, Lara scored 34 Test hundreds, and 48 half-fifties, whereas he made 400 runs against England in an inning, which is a World record.
He also served his country in 299 One Day International fixtures, collecting 10405 run with an average of 40.48.
In spite of Lara’s outstanding career and magnificent World records, his compatriot, the right-handed fast bowler, Holding has not termed him as complete batsman, and said that the former Caribbean batsman Viv Richards scored against
According to Holding, Richards has always been right on the target against Imran Khan, Richard Hadlee, Kapil Dev, Bishan Bedi, and Abdul Qadir.
Richards was another Caribbean batsman, who had been contributing in the West Indies’s success during 1980’s era, which led them to rule on the cricketing world.
He served his country in 121 Test matches, and 187 One Day International fixtures, earning 8540, and 6721 runs respectively.
The right-handed batsman, Richards, who was born in Antigu, scored 24 Test centuries, and 11 ODI hundreds.
He was one of the best batsmen to smash bowlers from the front foot, which helped him to dominate against them.
