Barclay’s English Premier League; Weekend Review

By the end of a thrilling week, 10 games were played at the Barclay’s Premier League. Manchester United is enjoys the top slot with two games in hand, sharing the points with Manchester City also having 41 points at the Barclay’s Premier League table.

All the big names of Barclay’s Premier League started their New Year in an epic style by winning their games, except Chelsea who drew with Aston Villa 3-3 at Stamford Bridge and came on the fourth position of the table making 35 points. Now the defending champions really have to struggle hard to win in their remaining fixtures to get back into the Title race.

Manchester United started their new year with a struggling 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion after a tough fight at the Hawthrons Stadium. Rooney gave Manchester United the lead in the 2nd minute of play but equalized by Morrison just 12 minutes after the first half. The match winner was scored by Hernandez in 75th minute which was enough for Manchester United to get three points on the table.

Liverpool also came back from behind in the second half of the match against Bolton Wenderers at Anfield to start their New Year with a celebration of 2-1 win. Bolton Wenderers took the lead in 43rd minute and the goal scored by Davies, putting real pressure on the reds. But Liverpool converted the pressure into two goals after second half, goals scored by Torres in the 49 minute and the first goal for Cole for Liverpool then in the 90th minute.

Talking about Arsenal, they started their journey to 2011 with the celebration of 3-0 win over Birmingham City at St. Andrews ground, and just two points away from the table leaders Manchester United.  Goals from Van Persie, Nasri and an own goal by Johnson were enough for the gunners to keep up the pace into the title race.

Tottenham Hotspur had a fine 1-0 home win over Fulham at White Hart Lane. Tottenham is now keeping track to Chelsea with just one point behind in the race for qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next year. Goal scored by Bale in the 42 minute sealed the victory for Tettenham Hostpur and put pressure on the defending champions to get back in the title race.

The fifth position on the Barclay’s Premier League is currently taken by Sunderland with 30 points on the table after winning their 3-0 home victory over Blackburn Rover at the Stadium of Light. Wellbeck gave the Sunderland lead in the 10th minute and then later goals scored by Bent in the 18th minute and Gyan in the 89th minute made it look easy for the Sunderland to have their New Year victory.

At DW Stadium Wigan Athletic lost to Newcastle Untied by 0-1 and came down at the bottom three (Relgation zone). Ameobi gave the lead to Newcastle United in 19 minute which was enough to get the three points at the table and start their New Year with a fine win.

In the other games of Barclay’s Premier League Stoke City had a 2-0 home victory over Everton at Britannia Stadium. Jones gave Stoke City lead in the 22 minute of play and the ironic own goal from Jagielka in the 68 minute confirmed the victory for the Stoke City.

It was a good Christmas and a good week for the West Ham Manager Avram Grant, as West Ham United had an easy 2-0 one-sided home victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Boleyn Ground. Zubar own goal in the 51st minute of play and 79th minute goal from Sears gives West Ham the three points on the table as the New Year gift.

Barclay’s Premier League title race is getting excited day by day and every body is anxiously waiting for the upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday fixtures keeping the fingers crossed as still a lot are yet to come in the action of Barclay’s Premier League.
