Barcelona’s striker David Villa Claims To Be Unlucky This Season
Barcelona’s star striker, David Villa has acknowledged the fact that his recent sprawl on the pitch is primarily due to bad luck. The 29 year old footballer has failed to net a single goal
in five solid matches. His non-prolific performances on the football grounds have attracted much criticism from all across the world.
David Villa Sánchez, born 3rd December 1981 in Langreo, is a professional football player from Spain. The Spaniard is deployed as a striker in the Spanish La Liga club, FC Barcelona
and also the Spanish national football team. He is nicknamed as El Guaje, meaning The Kid in Asturian language.
The Spanish footballer began his professional career with the Sporting de Gijón side. After playing there for two whole seasons, David got transferred to Real Zaragoza. It was there that
he made his La Liga team debut and won the prestigious accolades of Copa Del Rey and Supercopa de España. David’s fame rose like fire in woods and he soon became a local celebrity in Real Zaragoza.
In 2005, the Spaniard was signed by Valencia CF for a price tag worth €12 million. In the 2007-‘08 season, the talented striker led his club in winning Copa del Rey and cemented his grounds
as a prolific player. In the 2010 transfer window, he was bought by FC Barcelona for a transfer fee of €40 million.
Villa became an integral part of the Spanish team that won the 2010 World Cup and earned the prestigious Silver Boot in the same tournament. He has netted in more World Cup goals than any
other footballer in the history of La Liga. This season, however, Villa has failed to make any impressive accomplishments on the fields.
David Villa is a true Spanish football legend and according to some media reports one of the most loved footballers in all of Spain.
Villa became a part of the Spanish national team squad in 2003 and started with the under twenty one squad. Finally in 2005 he was added to the list of the first team national squad and since
then has made seventy one appearances to represent Spain and netted forty four goals for international glory.
'El Guaje' has blamed his luck to be responsible for the languid performances and the squandering chances on the pitch. The international player disclosed to AS: "I have not [had] much luck
lately, but the positive is that every day I'm [making] chances,"
The striker has 21 goals to his part in all Barcelona competitions this season. Although his statistics may appear to be great but Villa’s goal-scoring record is much less when compared to
Lionel Messi – the champion having 42 goals to his name.
David Villa is pretty much sure that his goals will start appearing out of thin air as soon as his luck returns. He holds full belief in his inner strengths and reckons that his positive
form will be back in no time. However, the talented footballer focuses primarily on the team performance rather than just the individual one.
"The team continues to win and playing just as well. I have to keep thinking positive and knowing that the next game is there," stated the player.
Barcelona’s side is looking forward to win the third in a row La Liga championship this season, as they have already made it to the final of the Copa del Rey.
