Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola commends Rayo Vallecano coach Jose Sandoval in 4-0 win at Camp Nou

Barcelona returned to Camp Nou to make amends for the match against Getafe which saw them slip 6 points behind Real Madrid. The Catalan team disposed of the La Liga pretenders with ease with tactician Pep Guardiola praising his opposing number.

The catalunya based outfit scored thrice in the first half to ensure victory against a tricky team from Madrid. Guardiola described the match against Rayo Vallecano as strange despite the final result. Barcelona found it difficult to overcome the man to man pressure put in practice by Rayo.

The manager likened the match to the first half against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames and found out time to praise his opposing number.

He congratulated colleague José Ramón Sandoval for his daring tactics. Barcelona were stifled for space on the pitch, which saw the former Spanish international packing the midfield to get the better of the visitors.

"It was like the first part of San Mames. You have to find a more direct way to overcome the pressure man to man.

“Sandoval has to be commended for the good game. We tried to match his approach with more men in the midfield and a little more control. It was a strange game against this team is no surprise," Guardiola told reporters present at the post-match news conference.

When asked about Rayo Vallecano’s ability to continue in Spanish top flight football, he said that he was sure that they will be in La Liga next year. He said that he admired the work put in by technicians of his calibre whose teams have been severely affected by the bad conditions of the economy.

"It is impossible that with their ambition they will not be in first division. I can bet on it. I admire brave technicians as Mendilibar, Emery and Sandoval. Last year they suffered greatly from economic issues and have the ability to track and follow," he said.

When asked about the performances of David Villa, who was one of the protagonists of the four goals, Guardiola supported his star striker. He said that he is a player who has been moulded in their style of play and understands his importance.
