  • Barcelona Getting Ready for the Clash of Titans

Barcelona defeated Shaktar on Tuesday night to find their place in last four of Champions League. The match showcased some of the Barcelona’s preparations to play against Real Madrid this weekend.

Barcelona started with the same defence that is probable to star against Real Madrid. Gerard Pique and Busquet started as centre backs. Pique was substituted in 2nd half to make sure he doesn’t get a yellow and is available for the both legs of the potential semi final clash against Real Madrid. Adriano played as left back and will definitely be in playing-11 against Real Madrid on the weekend. His replacement Maxwell is also fit to play and might start in one of the four possible clashes with Madrid. Dani Alves played as right back and will keep his position for all the four clashes with the whites. He definitely would play a very crucial role in all the matches to come.

Mascherano started the matched as defensive mid-fielder and will hopefully play in the same position against Madrid on the weekend. If Puyol and Abidal get fit for the later matches, he will lose his position to Sergio Busquet and would have to sit on bench for remaining season. Xavi played the match in mid-field along side Keita. Xavi was replace in the 2nd half of the match to make sure that he gets away from any unnecessary injury. He will definitely be in the same position for all four Madrid clashes. Keita is however improbable to start in any of those matches. Instead he will be a situational replacement for both Xavi and Iniesta. Iniesta was rested for the night and that shows how important he is for the team. His inclusion in all four games is also un-debatable and he will play a crucial role in Barcelona shirt. He and Xavi will define all four games against Madrid and if Mourinho can find any way to stop these two, Barcelona will find them selves in lot of trouble.

Lionel Messi scored last night and completed the match in the field. He will also be playing in all four games against Madrid and will be crucial to Catalans fight for treble. He is currently the highest scorer in all the formats and is in sensational form. He is the only player in Barcelona that can’t be replaced at any stage of the game. To right and left of him David Villa and Pedro will be joining to complete the Barcelona’s attack. David Villa started last night and was replaced to make sure he avoids any injury. Although he isn’t in the best of his form, but player like him is much more to a team than goals. His ability to cope up with Messi is important to make a formidable Barcelona attack. Pedro didn’t started the night but was brought later in the second half to have some way with the ball in the field. If he is completely fit, he would be playing in all four matches and Affelay along with Bojan would be used as his situational replacement.

Tuesday night win over Shaktar, as a game was just a formality for Catalans but as a preparation for Madrid it was crucial in all aspects. It would really be an amazing 15 days of football when Barcelona and Madrid clash on all three fronts.
