Barbados women whip T&T by 4-2 at the Pan American Games

The Barbados female hockey athletes put up an impressive show to defeat their Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) counterparts by 4-2 in their second Pool-A encounter at the 16th Pan American Games played in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Friday, October 21.

The match was quite a competitive game where both the sides shared some good but short periods of dominance.

However, at the end, it was Barbados, that emerged victorious in the hard-fought battle of hockey.

The Barbados athletes remained dominant for most of the time in the opening half of the game where they scored three goals while conceded only one.

The second part of the game was somewhat of a balanced contest, with a single strike from each team in that period.

The Barbados women played strategically throughout the entire match, especially in the first half where they adopted an attacking strategy that eventually worked for them. In the second part of the match, they appeared to adopt a rather defensive approach.

However, they put up an excellent show whether they were attacking or playing defensive. They were as resolute in their defence as they were sharp in their attacks.

The first half started slowly but soon it gained momentum. Barbados women brought some action into sight after nine minutes of being in the field.

They opened their account with the help of a beautiful field goal from Cher King in the 9th minute. Barbados ladies took just another six minutes to double their lead when the skipper, Dionne Clarke, converted a penalty corner into their second goal in the 15th minute.

However, T&T athletes, after conceding two early goals, replied well to their opponents. They reduced the Barbados lead to a single strike when Kristin Thompson scored their opener in the 17th minute.

Leading by one goal, the Barbados women struggled greatly in the remaining time but they faced a solid defence by the T&T Team.

However, three minutes before the interval, they once again succeeded in regaining their lead, with Charlia Warner netting the ball. The first half ended at 3-1 to Barbados.

The second half was an even tougher battle as compared to the first one. But unlike the first one, the T&T athletes were the first ones to start ticking the score board.

The T&T team once again reduced the Barbados lead to 3-2 in the 37th minute when Arielle Ramchand Du Quesnay scored an excellent goal on open play.

The match remained on a tight mode for the remaining time as no more goals were scored until the last ten minutes.

In the 61st minute, Barbados women scored their last goal of the match. But this time it was Maria Sealy who contributed to the score board with a low drag flick shot. The match concluded at 4-2 in favour of Barbados.
